All your options have advantages and disadvantages...
localbitcoins.com is like craigslist so you have to meet the seller and that can we uncomfortable for some people.
ebay is the easiest but your going to pay a huge premium but it is safe for the buyer just risky as hell for seller.
the markets out there like btc-e and mtgox take forever to fund with cash.

If you're willing to link a US bank account, Coinbase is pretty good. It takes a few days to get the bitcoins (an anti-fraud measure, I believe), but it worked great for me.

I use coinbase, and I haven't had any problems.  Plus they offer 2-factor authentication, which is a plus.  It's free to then transfer the coins to any other wallet you choose.

If you have a bank account, then simply use coinbase as they are located in the us so they are most compatible with us banks. If you want you can try using local bitcoins. Finally what part of the US are you talking about?
