New topic here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2800098.0

Skeincoin uses a new Proof of Work (POW) algorithm that is energy efficient and secure.
The first round of hashing is done using Skein, the second using SHA256 (Skein-SHA2).
Skein hash information: http://www.skein-hash.info/
SHA2 hash information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHA-2

Initially Skeincoin will only be minable using the wallet/daemon using a CPU.
Update: GPU miner available
The algorithm is very suited to be implemented for optimised CPU, GPU, FPGA and ASIC.

Specifications

POW Hash: Skein-SHA2
Block target: 2 minutes
Block reward: 32 SKC, halving every year (262,800 blocks)
    No premine.
The first 100 blocks will return a reward of 0.0001 allow miners to setup and difficulty to adjust.
Total coins: Around 17 million
Default RPC Port: 21230
P2P Port: 11230

Interesting concept with double algorithms, looks like a coin with some good features.
Just hope that it doesn’t get chocked with EC2 instances..

CReserveKey::GetReservedKey(): Warning: Using default key instead of a new key, top up your keypool!

Why do i keep seeing the above message in the log file?

how is the new algorithm energy efficient?

It is energy efficient in the sense that it requires much fewer operations to calculate than say Scrypt or the Quark hash.

It is not meant to be difficult to implement in other hardware like GPUs, FPGAs or ASICs.
