Widespread improper usage of the verb 'pump'

Lately the forum is full of speculators using the word 'pump' as a verb in the incorrect way. The word is often used with Bitcoin itself as the subject of the sentence rather than the predicate.

Example: "Bitcoin will pump past $10,000" (wrong)

In this sentence, Bitcoin is apparently pumping itself, which is impossible. This is not the correct usage of the verb. Nowhere in the dictionary will you find the word used this way.

In financial markets, the verb pump is often used in the context of a 'pump and dump'. In this case, pumping is a fraudulent act performed by a malevolent entity. Is this what you guys mean? Even if so, the way you are using the word is still wrong. You have to specify that subject I.E. WHO is doing the pumping.

Example: "Bulls will pump Bitcoin past $10,000" (correct)

Things don't pump themselves. Something ELSE has to do the pumping.

On that other hand, as I suspect, you may be using the word pump as a synonym for the word 'rise'. These words are not really synonyms. So if your intent is to say that bitcoin will rise, you should simply use the word rise.

You are correct here, but you are embarking on a fool's errand.  The jokers here have no conception of how to use the english language properly and won't ever heed your advice.  You will only find the word 'pump' used the way it is on bitcointalk.org, because ignorance is in the gas phase here and has permeated everything.  It's all they know how to write.

I exactly don't know if this thread belongs to the speculation board but whatever it is thanks for brining it out to the notice of people who have been using it widely in the speculation subforum.

Though it doesn't affect much things but it will surely make posts look less idiotic when people are trying to give their expert opinions on various stuff.

the term "pump" is mistakenly used for bitcoin because of altcoins and the way they get pumped. when newbies keep seeing each rise of each altcoin is only a pump they start thinking maybe each bitcoin rise is a pump also. so they end up using the same term for both of them.
eventually these newbies will become experienced enough to see the difference between a real pump (which altcoins have) and a rally (that bitcoin has).

this is the reason why many investors who think that this forum becomes uncomfortable to read. because many of them are just chasing the campaign targets and babbling on multiple threads and making stupid threads. without knowing what they are really talking about

I recommend you look at the pump from the other side. Bitcoin is a pump that pumps dollars. How about this? Around us there are many pieces of paper that cost nothing and are called dollars. Bitcoin is a vacuum cleaner that draws them into itself in unlimited quantities and makes this world cleaner. Do you like this version?

Oh, language. I've long given up on trying to stick to the grammatical rules and punctuation regimes of language. Schooling in the 80s and 90s hammered these in but modern language I think is less draconian. I think it's a good thing, tbh, and reflective of the way language is globalising.

Plenty of phrases to pick on, but pointless. If Oxford can accept words like moobs (man boobs) then pump can be as informal as it is used here.
