Good news! Faysal just called me from Antarctica. He said that he would reach the South Pole tomorrow or the day after. I expect him to be able to complete a transaction then. His expedition can be followed here:
www.faysal-hanneche.com/blog-transantarctic/  **Use Google Translate if you do not speak French**
SHA256 of address to receive bitcoins from South Pole:
b3e4066f3b1ccd87cc1089cd83793d7db7658e849a7f4f43d137d93ec42d509f

Awesome !!! Will we be able to see some picture that bitcoin flag is on the South Pole ?
That is what he told me on the phone (he left a voicemail for me). He told me that he would get pictures of the flag from the South Pole and that he would also get pictures of my company's logo, Sirius Money, from the South Pole. He also told me that he would try to call me tomorrow.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Ironically, I was just thinking about this yesterday as I was finalizing the I Have a Dream endeavor: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=918449.0

To be honest, every now and then I started to have doubts about this quest, but am so happy to now see it come to fruition. Unlike my Super Bowl banner that supposedly made it to the front gate last year but was confiscated by homeland security, at least that was the last anybody ever heard from the infamous tattoo lady, that convo to me.

It's fun to look back at this and think "I was a small part in making it happen..."

All the best to our daring explorer. Hopefully a safe return with no ligament injuries!

Hardforks aren't that hard. It’s getting others to use them that's hard.

Love this community so much.

Now with the price back down to earth (roughly the same as when this thread started) perhaps our community will bond a bit better.

Success!

Quote from: Faysal Hanneche
Hello to all of you, I’m from 11:00 p.m. (French time) at the South Pole. I was very well received and I have very good vibration. After a good meal and heat, I was invited to visit the US base Amudsen Scott and i also very well received. It’s cold, it falls below -30 ° C and I am very tired. I have a plane this morning for the base Union Glacier and afterwards another plane to Punta Arenas in Chile. Before going to bed, I went to the place where is the point indicating the South Pole to take some pictures with the flags of my partners who trusted me and I thank the form of the heart.

I also took the time to gather myself alone and remind myself the progress so far. My head is spinning a little to see the world but I do feel that the positive waves: it’s a good drunk. Friendship to all of you from the South Pole.

Pictures and more to come. Thank you to all who supported this effort!

Reuploading the pictures of Faysal with the Bitcoin logo on the South Pole since earlier pictures are no longer available. For posterity Smiley
