Inspired by this guy trying to put up a bitcoin flag at the south pole (only BTC 0.46 left to donate for this, btw), I've been thinking about putting a Bitcoin Flag onto THE MOON!

How about it?

Can we put a rough number on the cost of such a challenge?

At what exchange rate would it be feasable?

How could this be organized (x-price style?)

What else could be part of the mission?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

What else could be part of the mission?

Install a server and mining equipment.

Good to have a copy of the blockchain on the moon right?

Yeah, I think it would cost a little too much. Maybe, do what the other guy mentioned as a alternative. It will at least reduce the cost a little. But, judging on the amount of replies to this thread. I don't think many people will be interested.

perhaps a better and more cost effective idea would be to send and receive a bitcoin transaction on the ISS.

That price is for sending a person. It's much cheaper if you send a robot with flag planting arm.

Or pay to piggy back on some mission to send an USB stick with a copy of the blockchain (like letcore said, I think a copy of the blockchain is more meaningful). Much cheaper.

Here"s your options you may canvass. If they are going you only need to pay for a small part of the cost . Or you can ask Will Smith as Hancock whose already been there done that!  OR Men in Black, Superman etc.

With that amount of money, you can pretty much hire some famous celebrity to advertise instead... and still cheaper by 100 times...

Yeah sure, a USB stick on a body without any sort of atmosphere or magnetic field. The radiations will fry that usb stick in a day or less.

Yeah... because I was planning on going there and retrieve that blockchain backup when mine dies.

It's just publicity.

We should all donate for our very own bitcoin satelite!

I would donate for this.

I think moon is a little to over the top, but satellite would be more feasible.
