Since you asked, I'll answer.

Money doesn't make people happy.  Material things don't make people happy.  People make people happy, you control your own happiness.

You control how you feel.

In the absence of money, could you make yourself happy?  Money won't last forever.

Have you asked squall if material things make him happy?  Because you took $10,000 of his money, used to to buy material goods to make yourself happy, and then screwed him with the bill.  How are you going to make him even?

I'm into creating universes, smiting people, writing holy books and listening to Prayer Messages (PMs).

You're just spamming at this point.  Make a thread about it.

There are some reasonable replies here and some absolutely stupid ones. I'm always boggled by the stupid replies.

If you're one of the ones making the stupid replies, then ask yourself this: what is money?

Ultimately happiness comes from within. That being said, money will make your life so much better. It can solve so many problems. If you are generally happy, then money will make you much happier. If you are unhappy though, I think money will just make you more miserable.

I am happy as long as I can pay my bills, pay for my food and save a little extra. Being filthy rich would be nice, but I don't need it for happyness.

If I could quit my job and just do what I want to with my money without limitations because of worrying about running out of money. That would make me happy. I would be skydiving, skiing and other cool stuff.

Money doesn't make me happy, but the absence of it makes me unhappy though.
Furthermore, it's important to see money is essentially nothing more than a deal between numerous parties.
It only exists because e.g. paying with a goat is impractical when you buy your groceries, so maybe 'Does abundance makes you happy' is a better question.

I have been wondering this question myself the past few days. There are a number of early adopter's in bitcoin which may find themselves wealthy one day if the worth of BTC does indeed skyrocket.

How would I feel about this if my holdings made me a millionaire one day? I would like to think life would become great and I would be happy because of this, but I know it's not true. All you need to do is watch some reality-tv shows to see that a lot of rich people are not happy, but in fact stuck in a vicious loop of seeking constant gratification.

Nowadays myself and my wife work hard and for our efforts we can buy an average luxury car, like a BMW and every fortnight I will wash it and keep it good and appreciate it. However if I become a millionaire one day, I'll buy a Ferrari F40 that I used to have posters of when I was a kid. But will I appreciate it half as much when I can buy a Lamborghini the next day, and have a guy come round once a week to wash it for me? Probably not. It will be nice to own, but essentially worthless to me as I did not labor hard to own it and appreciate it.

I think labor is a human condition, we work hard, we earn a wage, we appreciate the fruits of our labor and we repeat. Simply being rich because you now have a huge bank balance would almost take the challenge or chase out of life.

I think money would help me give those around me a better life and more security, which would in turn probably make me happy. So in this sense it's more of a conduit to other thing's that would give me happiness.

Money doesn't make me happy. The things I can do with it make me happy. It puts the food on the table and pays for certain luxuries. So, my answer would have to be No it doesn't make me happy and I don't think it makes anyone happy. However, the things we can do with that money is what makes people happy.
