Well, only a couple of things. Android lets me: *Root the damn thing *Install software from non-official sources *Install custom roms *Access the file system without specific PC software required *have open source power: thousands of enthousiasts working all day improving things
Summing up: actually OWNING my phone instead of some form of lease.
Frankly, I would be surprised if an early Bitcoin adaptor deliberately choses Apple or WP8.

There's one thing that I don't like. After rooting you can't get an official update but rather have to either install custom, or un-root -> install upgrade -> root again.

Will installing the update bri k your phone, or will auto unroot? Currently on root + custom ROM (which auto updates).
You can't have an Android software update on a rooted phone (at least not on S4). Not sure about the rom.

Android Factory updates will not brick your phone and they will close root access but usually you cannot update to (OTA) stock if you have a custom recovery & rom installed. If you update a custom rom then it is totally in your control. If you do everything correctly you should have no problem. If you do something stupid, like flash a rom from another phone model, then you will likely brick. However, Most phones nowadays have the ability to be repaired easily through software if you do mistakenly brick it.

Rooting and flashing is for advanced users anyhow. Why did you do it, when you don't even understand what bricking a phone means?

I think you can using Odin. Rooting/installing custom ROM isn't that hard nowadays. There's nothing that can go wrong (unless you go full retard and unplug your phone halfway through ) That's not a normal update then and has it's risks. Yes there is plenty that can go wrong, you obviously don't have enough knowledge on this matter.

I know things can go wrong, but that's just the user's fault or you are using a terrible built ROM. Apparently I have enough knowledge to root my phone and install several custom ROMS.
Both are easy and my 6 year old cousin knows how to do it. After showing him. You watched a video/read a guide. Nothing special.

Yes I read a guide, like everyone else. That's why I said there is pretty much nothing that can go wrong.
Everyone else? No.
