I was trying to find info on this, but my search attempts failed.
Is there any performance mining wise vs the two? Or any big factors I should know about? I've been using 7 to date, but I'd like to start installing windows xp to usb disks and don't want to have to purchase 16gb usb drives just becuase of the needed space.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in
Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it
will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Drivers would seem to be the main issue, double check compatibility with those. XP is an aging OS and is almost EOLed on Microsoft's end.

XP is 5mhash/s faster but win7 can be bought up to the same speed by turning aero theme off.

ATI did relased the last Win2k compatible driver (6.2) after Win2k's EOL... Wikipedia: The Windows 2000 family of operating systems moved from mainstream support to the extended support phase on 30 June 2005.
