I will be replacing DefaultTrust with a new trust list. However, I do not have a good starting point to start building this list with. Thus, I am asking for applications to become "trusted". Please respond with:

  • Why should I trust you?
  • What have you done for the community?
  • What are your prior successful trades?
  • Aside from yourself, who do you feel is the most trustworthy member of BitcoinTalk?

Thanks in advance for your participation.

Excellent idea.

  • Why should I trust you?
I never rated anybody but the trust ratings I would put would be exact (0 as risked BTC if there is 0 BTC risked)
Things like "I'm here for 2years" is meaningless IMO, but the forum has several proofs of me helping people since I registered
I'd put in my trust list only people I absolutely trust (you don't care if you'd use a 0 depth)

  • What have you done for the community?
Scripts (including pywallet), BT++, helping in the tech forum

  • What are your prior successful trades?
None, I never traded yet
Newbies occasionally send me their wallet to fix them or such
Oh, and 20 BTC that Atlas received and wanted me to send to his address (2011)

  • Aside from yourself, who do you feel is the most trustworthy member of BitcoinTalk?
I'd say etotheipi
I think it's even the only one I'd trust here

This is my current trust list, with 0 depth.

It is a good idea actually why doesn't Theymos make this an actual mod feature and let us put up who we trust in our profiles rather than just putting up something that can be really abused by any random jackass out there as we've seen happening constantly lately?

After my most recent trimming and additions my trust list consists of:

Quote
Gavin Andresen
kakobrekla
Micon
pankkake
greyhawk
rini17
MPOE-PR
DannyHamilton
ThickAsThieves

Getting Theymos and DefaultTrust off of the trust list too some trimming, but if kept to a depth of 1 this list should work for that.

I can't recommend this list though. A personal web of trust should be well, personal. It takes time to cultivate a good personal list of your own.

Trade or have a history of trading then build it from there. No one on my trust list is someone I haven't traded with or personally done scammer research on. I trust who they trust, but don't go too many levels "deep" in trust. Just enough to get an effective rating system that simply "works".

SImple, empty the list, trust no one.
Wasnt one of the key points of bitcoin to eliminatie counter party risk? If we need to trust someone based on forum posts, we are doing something wrong.

I just use the default list. Although, I don't really care much about who is on the list. Before I do any trades, I check that person's feedback to see just who gave them positive feedback. If I don't personally trust them, I don't value their positive trust all that highly.

Who do I trust? People who have more to lose than they do to gain by scamming.

Thanks for the input. I'll delve a bit deeper into your histories before I commit to anyone. When I'm done, I'll post the update trust list here.
