Newcomers, please check out:
* https://trello.com/mastercoin
* https://trello.com/b/6FMStLsg/autonomous-application-infrastructure
* https://trello.com/b/uRutPlms/exchange-project
* Updated spreadsheet of bounties

Note - this will be a self-moderated thread to combat the trolls and keep it clean.

Hi all!

Sorry to open yet another Mastercoin thread. FYI, we're talking with theymos about allocating a forum for Mastercoin and other blockchain-based technologies. In the meantime: The purpose of this thread is to announce new positions and bounties as they become available. There is a need for this thread because new positions and bounties are added daily and the main thread is too messy.

Everything is organized on Trello, you can find the current bounties there.

I remind everyone that on a lost of the tasks you will have to specify how much BTC/MSC the bounty is worth for you, instead of us thinking about the sum for each bounty. If you need extra budget to get something done, let us know. You are expected to be Feature Owners.

How to apply?

1. For bounties, you can just work on them and let us know once you're done.
2. You can also comment on the Trello card and mention @ripper234 or others to get out attention
3. You can also email info@mastrecoin.org telling us that you're interested in a particular bounty or position.
4. You can invent your own! If you think there's a bounty we need to add or position we need to open, let us know!
5. If you have some idea, but are worried it's not refined enough - feel free to brainstorm with the community. They can help you refine your idea into a bounty or position.

Guidelines
- Make sure to write open source code, hosted on github.

I would like to use this chance to announce a new position and a new bounty:

Security Auditor
https://trello.com/c/FDNNdZ5H/24-security-auditor

We are looking for someone to become Mastercoin's official security auditor.
This person needs to come with the highest credentials possible.

He will own the task of auditing the spec, various clients and infrastructure components.
He will also be responsible for setting up various bounties for detecting security related bugs.

Price Charts website AKA Mastercoincharts
https://trello.com/c/MmaWrEZu/25-mastercoincharts-price-charts

Mastercoin already has some price history, and soon we'll have the distributed exchange and a real price history.

This bounty goes to developing this site. Note that the site will need to support multiple currency pairs and other asset types ... you should start with BTC/MSC at first.

New Bounty (which is a bit recursive):

https://trello.com/c/KcZ6FfSu/26-spec-for-bounties

Quote
Let's decentralize the bounty process (not just for mastercoin bounties ... this is a generalized "wishlist" feature ... you wish for stuff in the real world and attach a bounty).

Anyone can propose a bounty as a message on the blockchain.

Anyone can claim a bounty via another message.

Anyone can vote on a bounty claim via proof-of-stake.

Cool, I didn't realize this.
In this case we might merge this bounty into the coding contest.

We have a lot of github repositories, and are coordinating them under https://github.com/mastercoin-MSC/

Most of the repos there are forks.
We need to manually do pull requests from other repos to keep them updates.

I would like us to write an open source web service that lets anyone grant them credentials got auto-pull from the parent fork.

This task will be useful to the wider developer community, not just to Mastercoin.

It's fun to be able to do our first? project that will help many many projects that aren't related to Mastercoin.

A new BizDev opportunity:

https://trello.com/c/HbAH7Odu/34-open-source-centralized-exchange

Open Source Centralized Exchange

This bounty goes to whoever manages to get a successful Fiat-BTC exchange to open source.

Conditions:

1. The exchange must be operational in at least three countries with meaningful volume.
2. The exchange must be completely open source, code wise. The code must have some documentation, and furthermore, processes need to be documented. The exchange is of course allowed to have closed discussions and documentations. However a 3rd party must be able to pick up this code and documentation and successfully implement an exchange on top of it.
3. The exchange must support buying and selling Mastercoin for fiat.

The bounty can be split between the exchange itself, and a feature owner that Gets This Done (omsone that can be external to the exchange that will drive this process).

Just to clarify, examples of Fiat-BTC exchanges are Mt. Gox, Bitstamp, BitsOfGold and BitInstant.

Note - the awarded amount could be something rather substantial.

I'm excited!

We already have one research problem ... the Dark Exchange, and here's another:

https://trello.com/c/EAWWSd1n/40-economic-research-why-does-msc-have-value

Quote
How much would be a suitable bounty for this feature? $500?

We need someone with a solid economics background (Peter Surda caliber) to research and explain why MSC has value.

A good feature to investigate is the CFD feature. CFDs and backed currencies "need" MSC to have value, and thus I believe their adoption will _cause_ MSC to have value.

I'll ping Peter Surda again on this.

New $500 bounty!

This is in fact an old feature (why, it was proposed almost a week ago!), but we haven't decided on a bounty for it until now.
I am authorizing a $500 bounty for a good implementation.
We may grow the bounty in the future (or not), but let's see what $500 can buy us.

https://trello.com/c/wtFdcTtl/15-build-a-budget-website

Quote
We are planning to separate the funds stored in 1Exodus between several addresses, and eventually multisig addresses. This will make it harder for us to prove to the world how much funds we have and how we are using them.

In light of transparency, I would like us to build a "Budget website" (budget.mastercoin.org) that will always show where all the funds are, with full support for multiple multisig addresses.

I would also like this website to let us specify on each expense what it is for. It is basically a replacement for https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtCyUJvk_IyNdGpVcnpBN2tOczFmbVRnck5TWjZuRFE&usp=sharing

Eventually this website will become a core part of Mastercoin and will be used by other companies that will be issuing their assets on top of Mastercoin.

The website should be open source of course.

If you want to start working on it, please propose a budget, we can then approve it with the board.

Another feature that will let us handle ourselves easier financially, and might develop into a full-fledged micro-lending economy.

https://trello.com/c/C3zc82Ob/43-lending-spec

Lending Spec

Quote
The Foundation will soon have a lot of "future money" in the form of future payments to the Exodus address from the Dev Mastercoins.

We want to be able to use them right now, and not be constrained by the temporal unavailability of funds.

What is needed is for someone to write a spec for lending ... people will be able to lend us money and gain interest.

E.g. if we have 10,000 MSC to be released over the next 2 year, it should be very risk free to lend 1,000 MSC to the Foundation and get some (low) interest rate on that ... as long as you trust that we won't default on the loan.

Rough idea:

publish_loan_request(address, interest rate, period) - we will publish that we are looking for a loan at a certain rate.

grant_loan_request(loan_id) - someone will agree to our terms. This will move the funds from his address to ours.

pay_back_loan(loan_id, amount) - pays back to the lender (amount can be smaller than the lent  amount)

delete_loan_request(loan_id) - delete a standing loan request.

I own mastercoincharts.com and would like to work on the price charts website. If there's an existing effort our there already in progress I can contribute my time / use of the domain.  I have questions about where I can find historical pricing for mastercoin (trades per day is easy to do, I can extract that data from the blockchain but historical pricing is trickier.)  I could also use a back-and-forth with an established mastercoin developer as to the best method is now/in the future for how/where to go to derive the daily average mastercoin price.  I'm assuming the distributed exchange will come into play here quickly.  From there, multi-currency support etc is easy...

Awesome!

I think some of the devs have started thinking about this, better coordinate with them.
The Google Doc contains some historic price charts.

You can also comment on the Trello board (send me your email to ron.gross@gmail.com and I'll invite you).
The Trello board is to be used as the main point to discuss specific bounties, in order no to clutter this thread.

I want to emphasize how important the Bounties feature is important.

This will allow us to move from the Foundation's management to "The community's management".
Implementing that might take some time, but this is a critical component in our acceleration program / network effect.

New UX/UI bounty:

https://trello.com/c/MdyfWYxp/10-mockups-design-for-a-website-listing-all-autonomous-applications

Quote
We would like someone to create a mockup or design for a website that will concentrate all the AAs currently raising money through the Mastercoin platform. The site will be a focal point for AAs to kickstart/bootstrap their operation. I think we can start with something that can easily showcase 10-20 companies. The next step would be to enhance the website to support 100s of companies.

There are some delicate legal issues here.

On the one hand we are currently using the term AA which we hope is a safer regulatory framework for speaking about these projects.

On the other hand, we need this website to be very welcoming to people who are not familiar with the Mastercoin ecosystem. One analogy for AAs is companies, shareholders, etc. ... which is easier to understand but harder legally.

The UX lead for this feature will need to consolidate this difference. FYI we are preparing a legal Think Tank that will assist wit this. For any issues or questions, please turn to Stas Oskin and David Johnston.

Please see the card for more details / POC.

https://trello.com/c/pIl04Srk/49-200-bounty-get-an-existing-nonprofit-organization-to-accept-mastercoin

Quote
They have a Bitcoin address, so technically they accept Mastercoin already. Problem is they won't know what to do with them.

So for someone to pick up this bounty they need to talk to an existing organization that accepts Bitcoins already, educate them about Mastercoin, explain to them how to work with the, and have them officially announce their support in some way.

For the purpose of this bounty we do not want organizations that are Bitcoin centric (e.g. the Litecoin Foundation if it existed wouldn't count). Wikileaks. EFF and Wikipedia are good examples.

Founding a local chapter of the Mastercoin Foundation

This is a voluntary opportunity. There is no bounty or salary for doing this.
If you want to get involved, but not sure how - this is a great way to get involved.

Found your own local Mastercoin Community. It can be a country-wide thing, a city chapter, or anything else.

Currently there are at least four groups working on setting up their local organizations. Just organize, ask us for help, and we'll do this together. More details to follow soon.

The UX lead for this feature will need to consolidate this difference. FYI we are preparing a legal Think Tank that will assist wit this. For any issues or questions, please turn to Stas Oskin and David Johnston.

Please see the card for more details / POC.

You are really good at this. Excellent job. Mastercoin is now starting to grow exponentially and I can barely keep up with the changes, and that is a good.

How about churches? Would they count? Also they aren't as politically controversial as Wikileaks.

Quoting from the main thread:

Quote
Are there any researches among us?

I am putting up a $1000 bounty for writing what may be the first peer-reviewed Mastercoin paper. Details:

http://fc14.ifca.ai/bitcoin/cfp.html

The first person or team to get a paper accepted into the Financial Crypto 14 conference, receives the bounty.

FYI the workshop is sponsored by The Bitcoin Foundation.

I updated the card to include any formally reviewed peer review, not just Crypto 14.

Interested in starting a Greek one...

Great! Please send an email to info@mastercoin.org
We are opening a Google Group to organize all local chapters with more instructions.

Localization for one of the clients...

Also interested...

No problem. Please contact the client developers, sync with them, and send them a pull request.

You are really good at this. Excellent job. Mastercoin is now starting to grow exponentially and I can barely keep up with the changes, and that is a good.

Thanks, this means a lot. I'm just an ordinary joe that happened to by lucky enough to be in the position that people are willing to listen to me (sometimes).

New bounty: undetermined amount (please propose a bounty amount for it).

https://trello.com/c/CrTosrYl/56-scalability

Quote
We need a page describing the eventual scalability of Mastercoin.

How many transactions per second can the network sustain? How fast this number is expected to grow? What are our main challanges? What about Lite Mastercoin Clients?

Something like https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Scalability

This task is left for someone qualified to take and propose a suitable bounty.

We'll provide details when we can.

1.
I've opened a new Spreadsheet that will always contain the latest bounty amounts.

2.
I have written this blog post describing the bounty process. We need more participation in order to keep accelerating - your input is welcome.

3.
Also, I increased the bounty of the Budget Website from $500 to $1000

4.
and added this new bounty:

Spend from Multisig

https://trello.com/c/ftjuT9gH/57-1500-spend-from-multisig

Quote
Bounty: $1500

Using Bitcoin multisig addresses, you can send MSC or any MSC derived currency to a multisig address today.

However, today, there isn't a way to spend money sent to such addresses.

Acceptance Criteria

Alice, Bob and Charlie share a multisig address. Alice should be able to "initiate multisig send" from her wallet. This pops up a notification on Bob's and Charlie's wallets. One of them "confirms send", and the funds are now sent. The notification can be hidden if nobody confirms it within a certain amount of time.

What is required for this bounty is adding a UI to at least two Mastercoin clients, and demonstrating the above flow on the real production network. The bounty would be split between the developers of both clients.

FYI - I believe no spec changes are required to make this work.

Do you need someone to translate to Dutch? I've done translations for several websites already and they were happy about my services.

We might need that in the future, but right now are focused on more generic infrastructure.
We have an open bounty for implementing localization - the code that supports multiple languages, not translating to any specific language.

If you wanted to found the dutch chapter of the Mastercoin Foundation, you could then follow up with doing the translation and maybe getting some bounty for it - but a first step would be establishing a community.

See http://wiki.mastercoin.org/index.php/How_to_start_a_local_Mastercoin_chapter

Churches span many borders, deal in a lot of financial instruments (bonds) and get favorable tax sheltered status in the United States. Cryptocurrencies are perfect for them in some regards

I am posting here for transparency's sake.

I believe this person is qualified for the job, and pending board approval would love to hire him to try and make some sense into this chaos. However I still want to be fair to everyone else (and I want to get the best candidates), and give you a chance to apply if relevant.

New bounty ($1500) - mobile wallet.

https://trello.com/c/Itu0CGT1/59-mobile-wallet

Quote
1.
Wallet should pass a minimal usability bar (Check out Mycelium wallet for an excellent Bitcoin wallet).

2.
Wallet should support at least the ability to send and receive BTC and MSC.

I won't specify this any more right now ... feel free to propose a spec and work with the community on refining it.

Increased bounty for writing doing economics analysis of why MSC has value from $500 to $1000.

Reminder - you can pick this bounty only if you have strong economics background. Just writing your own analysis, without fully understanding traditional economics at a very high academic level will not get you this bounty (although this can qualify for other bounties e.g. the Documentation Contest).

https://trello.com/c/EAWWSd1n/40-500-economic-research-why-does-msc-have-value

Quote
$1000 bounty, but it should to be Peter Surda or someone of his caliber that does this research. Very strong economics background is needed.

We need someone with a solid economics background (Peter Surda caliber) to research and explain why MSC has value.

A good feature to investigate is the CFD feature. CFDs and backed currencies "need" MSC to have value, and thus I believe their adoption will _cause_ MSC to have value.

Great opportunity everyone - we are looking for a CTO!

https://trello.com/c/ydovvlia/65-rbb-cto

Key responsibilities

To execute on our vision and implement the technical solutions, utilizing the developers we have on our team, as well as hiring more developers as needed. The scope include overseeing several projects, including the various Master Protocol web, desktop and mobile clients, the mastercoin.org website and related assets, and other projects.

This would be a joint coding/management position, at least at first. We need the CTO to have hands on experience with the various projects that we are developing. and spend about 30-50% of his time actively coding (at least while the team is small enough to justify it). The rest of his time should be spent on technical, project, and people management, including hiring more developers, managing bounties, and spec development.

Note that I would strongly consider J.R for this role if he were to become available full-time for Mastercoin (this was in fact the trigger to his post about selling MSC). Still, this doesn't mean the position is locked in, and anyone is encouraged to apply.

Required Experience
1. Experiences of successfully managing teams of at least 5-10 people  is required, or other relevant proven track record is required.
2. Experience with scalable software architecture, web, mobile and desktop development
3. Strong Bitcoin background - a must.
4. Recommended: Prior experience as CTO

How to apply
1. Study up on Mastercoin
2. Please send your resume & cover letter to ron@mastercoin.org plus ping my on skype at ripper234
3. Recommended - send us your plan of "what would you do in your first month on the job"

Role Based Bounty: Business Development

I have opened up a new Role Based Bounty for Business Development to help us create a database of all the exchanges that currently trade bitcoin and altcoins and may benefit trading Mastercoin.

The details of the bounty can be found here: https://trello.com/c/krx4oaR2

This role requires filling up a database of exchanges and contacts with whom we are building relationships to list Mastercoin.

The Bounty is $200 for a 5-day project.
