Hello,

sometimes I see coins on coinmarketcap which shows extreme gains,
but when I look at the exchanges, the price is much lower.

For example 6 $ on Coinmarketcap and 2 $ on an exchange.

How is that possible? Is this a bug or manipulation?

It is not a manipulation, Coinmarketcap is late to update the price. Sometime when they already updated the prices on the list after a few min the price on the markets is changed while on the Coinmarketcap remains and will be updated after how many mins will past again. For short the pricelist in coinmarketcap is not live like the exchangers.

Yes manipulation does effect the price and that's why prices are varying among different exchanges but I haven't seen  this much big difference in prices among exchanges as you are stating i.e 2$ and 6$. It would probably a bug if there is 3x difference in price.
Can you elaborate that about which coin are you talking about? and what was the exact values you have noticed?

No manipulation is going on at Coinmarketcap. They act like directory of coins and tokens. They post whatever is the status or current price of coins and tokens. However the price that you see there is based on the exchanges where the coins and tokens is listed. Not sure if its the average of the coins or token if it is listed in multiple sites.

Can see coinmarketcap is an indispensable place for all trader but sometimes this site really has a great deception because there are many projects asking them to update information but they try to find ways to forget and where the Circulating Supply is always marked? . This can make them control the market precisely because they are in full control of which coins live and which coins die

I am not sure but it is probably about the gap between buy orders and sell orders, some coins can be sold at $10 while it is bought at $30 in a day.

Whats the point of coinmarketcap manipulating the price there at all? Its not an actual exchange, it just shows the price in other exchanges.

There can be a lot of reasons for this imprecisions, delay in updating the prices and different prices on different exchanges. With coins which are traded only on one exchange, typically Etherdelta, and with non existent volume, single individuals can manipulate the price by selling little sums for absurd prices. It is unlikely that there is some intentional manipulation on behalf of coinmarketcap.

It is not about manipulating, it's just coinmarketcap is not updated nor live. Coinmarketcap they are just showing the price of an altcoin but if you click a certain coin posted in coinmarketcap and go to the markets, they also show the different prices of altcoins in different markets. Coinmarketcap is just a reference for the cryptocurrencies that we are planning to trade and invest.

I would be shocked that they have free time to manually manipulate stuff LOL!

I quit using them for other reasons... many times a coin I needed to track or investigate just wasn't listed there... also I didn't see any easy way to save a collection of coins that I need to see every day... last but not least I needed a way to hand draw on charts and graphs and add notes and stuff and then save and download or print those for study or reference. I ended up switching to CryptoCap World because it provided all those features that I just mentioned were missing at CMC.

If someone really has proof that CMC is manually manipulating coin info for nefarious reasons I would suggest you make a solid argument with some evidence and facts otherwise you are not going to be taken seriously IMHO...

This is what I see some times. If the coin is listed on several small exchanges with small daily volume, the price can be manipulated easily. You can pick just one of the exchanges for that. And coinmarketcap will include that into the price estimation. Very soon it will come back to the previous value.

This must be the case with small cap coins. Usually, the local exchanges or exchanges which have suspended withdrawal or deposit, tend to show higer prices. Coinmarketcap shows average price from all the exchanges and that's why the price sometimes seems high than actual price on international exchanges.

This was the reason for which coinmarketcap stopped showing prices from Korean exchanges where coins usually are sold on premium.

in business it could have mengahalal kan all ways to get a profit. and including coinmarketcap.com in manipulation or paid by certain parties to be taken to his advantage.

but it could be because his coinmarket has not been sync to the website in the go, usually it takes about 24 hours to refresh the network. and that includes honesty in need in terms of business like this.

I think it is not manipulation but someone who tries to push up the price by increasing the purchase price. so the end of history will be listed in coinmarketcap.

I don't think it's about manipulation. Just Coinmarketcap does not always have time to update the price. In my opinion, the price is manipulated only by the media.

To make some hype I guess? Because if they can manipulate the market cap they can deceive people to buy neither sell. And I won't be surprise if there will be some proof to support this because anything can be possible to those whales that just only knows how to make an easy money.

You mix it up. Coinmarket cap takes the highest of all the exchanges the coin is listed and present that price. What happened is that the exchange you checked has the price at $2 while another exchange the same coin is listed has the price at $6 yet another exchange may have it at $4  and another even at $3. There is no manipulation with coinmarket cap.

Why you think it is not manipulation? it maybe even manipulation because coinmarketcap is one of the most used site to check the prices of all crypto currencies so they can get paid to manipulate the prices and also recently there is an issues found that they are in the maniplation too so we need to compare other sites as well before going into an exchange.

It's not coinmarketcap's manipulation. Coinmarketcap's API not too fast like Price up down. And sometimes, Exchanges have the same mistake. About three days ago, I traded in IDEX with an altcoin. Coinmarketcap showed me 0.12$ Per Coin, But I sold on IDEX at 0.45$ Per coin! Such a huge gap! So, It's not manipulation. Actually, Coinmarketcap adds price a little bit lately.
