I'm sure this has been asked somewhere else but I've searched many times and cannot find this scenario in any results.

I have a 16x pcie slot on my MB and I plugged a 1X -> 16 Riser in the slot however the video card is not being detected.  When I plug the 1x ->16x riser in a 1x slot on my motherboard it's detected and works fine.

Any ideas?

With some mobos, you have to short some pins to make the x1 extender work in a x16 slot:

See the third post.

Be careful, though, as some have reported frying their boards doing this. I would order a x16 --> x16 connector, and maybe do the short trick while you are waiting for it to arrive (if you really want to mine this way in the meantime).

Thanks, I'll just order the 16x -> 16x riser and be done with it.
