Electronic voting powered by blockchain at the National University of Malaysia

Congratulations to the Faculty of Economics and Management (“FEM”) of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or the National University of Malaysia for conducting their first-ever blockchain-powered e-voting process!

This election saw a total of 757 students take to the polls on 7th November 2020 to exercise their democratic rights in electing representatives for the faculty. While the election of student representatives isn’t something new, this year’s process was done via e-voting using ProximaX Sirius technology.

It is no secret that traditional balloting systems have many weaknesses. Just last week, the US 2020 general elections saw reports and allegations of voter fraud, intimidation, and lost ballots. Driven by these inherent flaws and the need for social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the forward-looking FEM ran their student council elections using the Sirius Blockchain Voting application (“SBV”).

The use of blockchain technology in voting can ensure that votes cast are immutable, irreversible, and tamper-evident. Furthermore, voters can be anonymized, and voting can be done without the need for physical presence, a feature especially relevant given the new normal set by COVID-19. The use of this technology also enables vote counting to be automated and taking place in real-time, thereby not only saving time but eradicating errors in physical ballot counting, mishandling, and cheating.

ProximaX Sirius Storage & Supercontract has Launched

We are pleased to announce the successful deployment of the Sirius Storage and Supercontract service layers. This release marks a significant development milestone for the ProximaX Sirius platform.

What is Sirius Storage?
Sirius Storage is a distributed file-sharing environment whereby participants can utilize their unused disk space to offer storage services on the Sirius Chain. The comprehensive reward scheme algorithm allows for flexible storage services based on market supply and demand. There are a couple of key actors within the Sirius Storage ecosystem. These are the Storage Director and the Storage Replicator nodes.

Storage Director Node (SDN) – A node service that allows consumers to access the storage system. An SDN hosts and stages files that will subsequently be uploaded into Storage Replicator nodes at a cost based on the replication needed by the consumer. SDNs provide the middle layer between storage users and Storage Replicator nodes.

Storage Replicator Node (SRN) – A node service that collects and stores all content uploaded by SDNs to be stored away for a fee. To address redundancy, the network stores a file in a minimum of three or more SRNs. SRNs are therefore, the backbone of the service and are essential to the resiliency of the network.

What is Supercontract?
As part of the ProximaX Sirius framework and protocol, the Supercontract is a service layer within this framework. It is an enhanced smart contract solution that simplifies building digital executable contracts on top of Sirius Chain. It leverages the Sirius Storage service to store, replicate, and execute these contracts to add to the reliability of any system that uses it.

Who benefits from these innovations?
The Sirius project is built as an application development framework and infrastructure for the decentralized web. The approach and architecture in addition to superior blockchain features and functions, make it compelling and beneficial for those who want or are looking to leverage distributed technology for data distribution, edge computing, data integrity, and resiliency, without needing to understand too much about blockchain technology.

Developers can use the platform to store large data objects that they can replicate across multiple SRNs. They can also host an SDN as an “edge” computing node to retrieve application data quickly. SDNs come with REST API endpoints and HTTP/S libraries for local and remote access.

Solution Architects can incorporate the platform’s capability to store, distribute, manage, and protect data into their designs. It can improve an organization’s infrastructure by leveraging trustless and permissionless public storage solutions or creating a cluster of SRNs to store sensitive and confidential data privately.

Business Operators can design a storage solution by forming clusters of SDNs, incentivizing SRNs to store their customers’ data. Accordingly, business operators can take advantage of the market supply and demand pricing for storage.

Year in Review 2020 by Lon Wong

2020 has been a rather uneventful year, specifically how Covid-19 has hit the world so hard and impacted global mobility and businesses. Naturally, ProximaX was affected by the pandemic insofar as its progress was concerned.

The Sirius Chain has clocked over 2.625 million blocks now and has shown to be working smoothly since its launch on 25th September 2019. However, in 2020, we fell short of our target to launch the Storage, Supercontract, and Stream. Although the Storage and Supercontract were launched on the mainnet in the last quarter of 2020, the plan was to launch it much earlier. The reason for the late launch was the reward mechanism that we were trying to work on, as well as some of the limitations in the Supercontract working hand in hand with the Storage. This resulted in us going back to the drawing board often. More improvements are expected in the coming months.

Essentially, we are nine months behind time as we play catchup this year. We shall be tweaking the Storage and Supercontract and also prepare to launch the streaming component. SDKs, APIs, and tools shall be developed further. We will put more effort into working on the Supercontract as we believe this will be a driving factor later for a more holistic ecosystem.

Sirius Stream Testnet Launched!

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Sirius Stream service layer on the ProximaX Sirius platform test network. This launch includes a software development kit (SDK) and a proof of concept application.
What is Sirius Stream?

Sirius Stream is a fully anonymous, end-to-end encrypted messaging and video streaming protocol and framework. This service layer utilizes the Sirius Stream Protocol (SSP) for secure and high performance real-time messaging and streaming services.

Sirius Stream has two core services:

Storage Streaming
Storage streaming is an extension of the Sirius Storage service layer that enables platform users to stream pre-recorded content (e.g., movies and videos). Solution providers can use the service to power a Netflix or YouTube type app.

Live Streaming
Live streaming is an independent streaming service layer that utilizes Sirius Chain for identification and incentivization. It allows for real-time broadcasting and sharing of content (e.g., chat, phone calls, and video conferencing), which forms the basis for short text messaging and multimedia or hybrid systems, like WhatsApp and Zoom.

Sirius Stream is a service that allows streaming through an open node ecosystem. Like Sirius Storage, it will also come with different system actors to facilitate a secure and performant service. The network incentivizes public nodes to provide a streaming service.  According to free-market principles, streaming nodes are selected by the system, taking into account node reputation and a selection mechanism.

Shortly after this article was released, Lon Wong our Founder and CEO was named as a key crypto influencer in Asia for 2021. According to a write-up by Digital Business Lab, Lon ranks no. 9 as a “quality Crypto influencer”. The Challenge: Absence of an Energy Marketplace for Businesses to Trade their Carbon Credits

Malaysia-based energy-saving project, Blockchain Energy Saving Consortium, or BESC, was initiated to help create a more sustainable future by mitigating climate change. It helps finance energy-saving projects while motivating individuals and organizations to participate in measures to drive our world towards energy-efficient processes.

One of BESC’s major concerns was there were no energy tracking platforms in the region to promote energy savings. Hence, BESC proposed a solution to create a platform where businesses could track their energy consumption or generation and efficiently trade their energy savings as carbon credits. The challenge, however, was to devise a way for businesses to record their carbon credits and sell or buy any desired quantity of the same.

The ecosystem of NEM would have XPX too: NEM, XYM and XPX. They are different but XPX has past relations with NEM and on market, they move together. They are in one bubble: one or two rise, another falls.

Im not sure. XYM is just an overblown token factory. The capitalization it got, and the very fact that its valued at 3 billion clashes with common sense. TESTNET READY FOR SWAPPING XPX INTO BINANCE AND ETHEREUM CHAINS

ProximaX has developed a simple swapping solution to swap XPX into the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and Ethereum chain. This solution was created as a result of many requests to list XPX in other exchanges because the current exchanges which XPX is listed in lack reputation, trust, liquidity, and reach.

BSC and Ethereum both have decentralized exchanges and any coin can be exchanged to a second coin in these decentralized exchanges, e.g., Pancake Swap in BSC and Uniswap in Ethereum. We have created this feature and are about to launch it in both BSC and Ethereum.

Storage seems to be underway for a few weeks now in testnet. We will be issuing an upgrade announcement notice on the chain soon. This will include fast finality, DBRB, SDA-SDA exchange, storage and streaming  layer features. This is a major upgrade to the chain.

Once that is smooth and running, we can look at rolling out the storage solution.

Barring unforeseen circumstances this should happen very soon and completed within the next few weeks. 🤞
