I've just been looking through the Index there, and all is see is bounty, merit, bounty, air drop, merit and bounty.
I'd like to award some merit to Bitcoin newbies, but I don't know where to find them.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

It is slightly messy in there, to put it mildly. It's almost worth considering a dedicated bounty subforum where activity isn't accumulated and the +Merit button is disabled outright. Really send the message that such talk isn't considered valuable to the overall health of the forum, it shouldn't be the primary reason people are looking to register an account here and, most of all, get the newbie forum back on track with its intended purpose. Bounty is currently listed as part of the "Project Development" board, but I'd rather see it as a separate thing. Airdrop topics can simply be moved to altcoins, that's not much of an issue. Not sure what to do about all the merit discussion. It's clearly getting tedious for anyone who's been on the board for more than a week. It seems excessive to prevent discussion with a rule, but it would also make a mess to move every pointless merit thread into Meta. I think all we can really do is dissuade merit discussion rather than disallow it completely. Perhaps Lauda could update their guide with a tip strongly encouraging newbies to look at existing threads where someone has almost certainly already asked the same question, rather than starting yet another new thread about merit.

Just like technical support got renamed to Bitcoin technical support it's probably a good idea to do the same for the beginners section. This depends on the topic at hand, but most merit threads and others in the beginners section could probably be moved to archival and a moderator can include a link to a relevant thread which has the information asked. For example, if they were asking a question regarding how merit works then it can be moved to archival and include a link to hilariousandco's FAQ Yes this would require leaving a 'ghost' of the thread to include the link, however it would prevent needless replies and further bumping of the thread. If the OP actually wanted to find out the answer they can check their post history. Another alternative would be the moderator replying to the thread with the links, and then moving it to archival. Just outright trashing the thread is probably unfair as from a beginners stand point they may think a question/thread like this is acceptable and fits in that section.

IMO even if theymos change the beginners board to the one you are suggesting it will still not solve the issue you were reading in my perception supposedly when they discovered BTC/bitcointalk.org they also heard (high merit high profit from posting or spamming) in this regards there is no other way to save Beginners & Help just to be honest what else petty sideline job could earn more than advertising on oneself signature space not to mention you can't rank up now for posting trivial things about bitcoin eventually they will start asking questions like the one you mentioned to (rank and earn).
Why don't you invite everyone in beginners and help to join fit to talk English forum that way they are in the right path to really serve themselves and the community. P.S I've already participated awaiting for confirmation from web master so I can use my acc to help and learn. Kind Regards,

I suppose in the beginning of the decade, when crypto and bitcoin weren't well-known, bitcointalk was the hub to join in order to understand and innovate crypto... but back then the only people getting into bitcoin were coders, deep web enthusiasts, and some people who were bore. So it was very niche.
But fast-forward ten years later, and bitcoin's hit the media outlets like fox news and instagram. So, naturally, all the work-at-home foreigners who plague the Neobux and Clixsense scenes are now clamoring at bitcointalk's gates looking for fast cash and a shot at the end of their poverty.
It's only natural that 90% of people trying to get into crypto are non-niche people just trying to make a quick flip or spam the heck out of the internet or a couple of $.

I think that the biggest problem here is that most of the topics there are focused on earning money through signature campaigns and bounties (posted by users who's post quality is terrible) or on complaining about merit which as far as I noticed, was introduced at the beginning of this year. I agree with the OP.

I agree with the OP. That's my point. The reason why the majority of beginners are into those kinds of threads, and posting about merit and sig campaigns, is because they're the new generation of "crypto enthusiasts" who are only joining bitcointalk because they think they can make a fast buck or some kind of quasi-passive income on forums. There's no real way to change that. It's just the atmosphere of crypto right now. It used to be that the people joining crypto 10 years ago were computer specialists who were into the true philosophical mission of bitcoin... now it's just stay-at-home people who probably don't know what printf does in C.

They don't want to join because you can't spam your signature, and I don't give posters there Bitcoin Talk merits. You can have a free fit-to-talk Karma though.

Probably a fool delude by free airdrop. If they want to improve they must do something even if it is beyond their capabilities.
