Did the 'notify' subscriptions for threads move too to the new server? I stopped receiving daily emails

I'm still receiving them. Possibly the spam rating has gone up because the domain name claimed by the server (bitcointalk.org) no longer matches the domain name that mail is actually sent from (bitcoin.org).

Sirius straightened out the reverse DNS, so mail is hopefully not being marked as spam as much.

Because the old wiki is hosted on this server, its new location is http://bitcointalk.org/wiki .

Sorry for bumping an old thread. But I did not want to create a new topic just to ask this simple question. The URL is not valid anymore. So where the Bitcoin wiki was moved? Is it the Bitcoin Wiki subforum? Or https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki is the official wiki of Bitcoin? Who controls this website at this moment? As far as I know, Bitcoin.org is in control of Cobra, and bitcoincore.org was separated from Bitcoin.org as well. Who controls the bitcoincore.org website?

There was a dokuwiki wiki on bitcoin.org from very early on. At the same time bitcointalk.org was split off from bitcoin.org, this wiki was as well. But IIRC it was shut down shortly after, since bitcoin.it had become much more popular. bitcoin.it and the bitcoin.org wiki existed at the same time for several months, and they sort of competed with each other during this time.

I wrote most of the content on the bitcoin.org wiki, and I moved most of it to bitcoin.it at some point. For example, if you look at the edit history for the Privacy page, you'll see that I created it on Dec 19, 2010 with the edit-message "Copy from old wiki". There were several pages like this.

(You'll have to do some more research if you want to figure out the exact timeline; I don't remember it off-hand.)

The bitcoin.it domain is owned by the forum, but it's always had a totally independent admin team. I've never been an admin there, nor appointed any admin. However, nowadays it seems mostly abandoned, with only 5 edits in the last 30 days (about half of which look like spam); I've been thinking for a few years that I should appoint some new admins or something, or maybe just shut it down and set up a redirect to bitcoinwiki.org.

Bitcoincore.org is run by the Bitcoin Core developers. I don't know off-hand who controls it.

Or https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki is the official wiki of Bitcoin?
Your question should be : which one of them is the most technically accurate and politically unbiased?
It seems Bitcoin wiki has no use, at least that's my opinion. When you have a forum, no need for wiki, but it's good to store the history in one place and categorized.

Please do not redirect it to Bitcoinwiki.org, because it appears to be broken:

This is the kind of error I get when I go to that website in Google Chrome.

It appears it's redirecting to bwiframe.org (why?) but I have no way to know whether this is in good faith or something malicious - it's better to just try to fix the bitcoin.it site since also a ton of links on the internet will go down with it.

I think it would be better to appoint new admins instead of redirecting it to bitcoinwiki.org as new admins team may make edits in the wiki as needed. The domain is owned by the forum and I think we should not just redirect it to bitcoinwiki.org and maybe we can find some good admins for that wiki via this forum who may add updates tp it on regular basis.

However, the final decision is always yours and if redirecting it is the only way then you may do that, but still I believe that there might be some good members of the forum who might want to contribute to that wiki and get appointed as admins at that wiki.

Thanks for the information theymos. That's all I wanted to know and I guess the community was interested as well to know about it. These domains and websites come first in the Google search. So, if it's not owned by the real community, they may spread falls information just like bitcoin.com did in the beginning by selling Bitcoin cash instead of Bitcoin. Your confirmation will remain as a document about these websites.

There is no "official" anything.
I didn't really mean that. I meant if it's owned by the forum or someone else. I know that there are no official website of Bitcoin.

I didn't quite understand why you'd want to redirect bitcoin.it to bitcoinwiki.org. Does this mean that bitcoinwiki.org is also controlled by someone from bitcointalk.org or bitcoin.org?

As of now, as another member pointed out, bitcoinwiki.org seems to be broken, redirecting to a weird bwiframe[dot]org page, which states, This site is suspended because "Whois verification is pending."'

Moreover, I believe that we should keep bitcoin.it for as long as possible. It's a valuable resource, much like bitcointalk.org. In fact, bitcoin.it still holds the second spot in Google search results for 'bitcoin wiki.'

https://www.google.com/search?q=bitcoin+wiki

There is no "official" anything.

That is absolutely true, but unfortunately, "bitcoin.org" often behaves as if they are the official representatives of Bitcoin. This is what the media tends to pick up on, and for newcomers, their first encounter is often with bitcoin.org. However, the question arises... What are they actually promoting? It's mostly static pages, a whitepaper, and content copied from what reddit and bitcointalk.og?

And even if you look deeper into some pages, you might find explanations of Bitcoin like this:

Like seriously that's how you promote bitcoin? Bitcoin is not recommended, bitcoin is a high risk, convert it to your local currency ?? Ok call me I'm reading between the lines but a beginner will pick exactly these points after read this "you-need-to-know" page.

So, please, I would suggest keeping bitcoin.it running. It can be a valuable resource for those who want to learn about Bitcoin. You see, bitcoin.org is primarily a collection of hundreds, if not thousands, of external links to exchanges, wallets, statistics, graphs, and what not. It's easy to get lost and find very little information about Bitcoin itself on that site.

It appears it's redirecting to bwiframe.org (why?) but I have no way to know whether this is in good faith or something malicious - it's better to just try to fix the bitcoin.it site since also a ton of links on the internet will go down with it.

There's some kind of popup window on top of the website in an iframe, which is blocking the website view.

If you inspect and delete this iframe you will be able to see the website.

Of course not that useful info but it someone still want to read some crypto data (bitcoinwiki.org is not 'bitcoin only' wiki but its more like a cryptocurrency wiki) can use this trick :p

@theymos in my opinion, I think you should keep bitcoin.it. I think the site already has a very relevant influence on the Bitcoin community around the world, and is one of the main sites that maintain reliable information about Bitcoin for over 10 years.

I remember how useful this site was when I got into bitcoin. It helped me mine, set up a wallet, make transactions and many other useful things at the time.

I believe that perhaps it can be improved, but not discarded. Everyone here in the community can help keep the project alive.

There is no "official" anything.
It is a point of the day and will last forever. I know you are not a first person who says about this but thank you for repeating it again.

Bitcoin is a decentralized project so on official website, wiki and so on. It matches with the original vision of Bitcoin creation and development. Just verify digital signature of Bitcoin Core as well as verify information from any site about it.

Honestly a few years ago, I thought Bitcoin.org is an official website of Bitcoin but I was wrong. If my memory is good, in the past, you attach a link to bitcoin.org for update of Bitcoin Core new version. After that, you switched to Bitcoincore.org and not too long after, I was enlightened by some veteran members here that there is no official website for Bitcoin.
