Hello Newbies.

I felt like i had to post this because I was this close (---) to getting scammed.

Now if you are familiar with Forums in general then chances are you already know what I am going to say. but if you just a newbie like me then you should know that ,there are a few types of topics that can be created on the forum , yet there are only 2 types that must trigger your " is this a scam ? " Alarm.

1- Locked Topics

with a lock symbol next to the tittle

2- Self-Moderated

once you enter the topic , there will be a note at the top left corner under the tittle saying (This is a self-moderated topic)

** i was hoping there is a way to see Self-Moderated topics before even entering them.

------------------------------------------------

While a few of those topics may be legit, MOST are not !

Scammers love using these two functions because in a locked topic nobody can reply to the topic saying " this is a scam !".
while on self-moderated the topic owner themselves can delete comments saying they are scam !, and the forum moderators can not moderate these topics.

................................

Another tip is to look at the Trust index of the author. you can find it under his username to the left side of your screen. and always ask for Escrow ( trusted people on the forum who will be like a middle-man between you and the seller)

As mentioned by YOGG  "if you see a negative (red) trust score, always check why this person got it.
It must be for a good reason. So simply click that "Trust" link, see what happens, and make your opinion."

I think one reason why you need to check that is because you want to know WHO gave the reviews and WHY. for example  the 4 guys i mentioned in the comment for being SCAM

YoutubeTV
bolg1
G1Shop
Thempanince

can easily give me be a bad trust score just to bring me down. so it is very important to check the reviewer's reviews too.

I know this is probably the worst anti-scam guide but it could save some people Cheesy

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

That's simple but straightforward for newbies. Smiley

You should also add that, if you see a negative (red) trust score, always check why this person got it.
It must be for a good reason. So simply click that "Trust" link, see what happens, and make your opinion.

If there was a negative trust score, and you decided to go for the trade and you got scammed, you can only blame yourself as there was lots of red flags to warn you.

Would be nice if you could say more about the i-almost-got-scammed part. How were you almost scammed? Which member and thread?

Yes, new members locking or self-moderating threads usually have dishonest motives. That's almost always a given.

Report them to EcuaMobi or here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2929216.0

Here is the most convincing topic that almost got me

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3315079.20

1- a comment from a FULL MEMBER .
2- a few good reviews .
3- no scam comments. !

everything about this post looked legit. till I asked for escrow and he deleted my message. so i checked his trust " did not about it's exciting" till my comment got deleted and found all kind of SCAM reviews.

here is a list of members who either refused to Escrow or simply delete my comments when i asked questions they didn't seem to like and.
I also noticed these 4 guys only have Locked and/or Self Moderated topics. which explains it all.

I would also like to add that one of the most tell-tale signs are auto-buy links, like the scammer posted in this message:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3315079.msg35196593#msg35196593

They're basically 99% guaranteed to be scams, so that should set off a red flag to any prospective client. He already got red trust from EcuaMobi for it, but I thought it would still be worth pointing out.
