Anyone have any ideas why Primecoin's value has fallen recently whilst all other altcoins seem to be increasing in value against fiat along with the BTC rally?

It was heavily inflated to begin with, plus the realisation of it's unlimited supply

Too many coins is generated in one day. Primecoin rate will rise in next year after rate BTC > 1000 USD and LTC > 10 USD.

I can see the anti primecoin trolls are out.

As far as I can tell people are too busy with the bitcoin boom to think about alt coins right now. There have also been a couple recent releases of cpu coins that have gotten a lot of attention.

Thanks, very interesting, can you name some of the other CPU coins or point me at some info on this?

Damn that was quick, the momentum based proof of work paper only just came out, I blinked and there is an implementation.

Having a trawl now; apart from ProtoShares are there any other momentum based PoW coins out there? What other CPU coins are there?

Someone should create a taxonomy of these approaches at some point. (Way too busy at the moment or I would defiantly volunteer to do this otherwise).

Primecoin only started in July.  Most coins have a quick run up in price for the first few months because of low supply, then a sustained drop kicks in for 3-6 months until the price reaches a sustainable level.  It's probably on its infancy down slide now, whereas most other alt-coins have already matured past that stage.

I also noticed Primecoin went down today while all the other major alts increased with Bitcoin.  I couldn't understand why.  Peercoin also has unlimited supply but it went up.  It's made a little come back though
