I got one also.  I have been on there for quite a while.  Perhaps it is volume related as to whom gets a key?

It's not volume-related, and being "old school" has nothing to do with it either. Free Yubikeys are given to people who had a transaction rolled back back when prices dropped to $0.01

Just click the Add Yubikey button wich is located in the security area.
Here you are able to buy a Yubikey where you enter the coupon code.
I acknowledge it's again pretty vague from Mtgox since the 'Order a Yubikey' button doenst exist in the security area.

I also got a email.
Not sure why they do this now.
Maybe they notice btc-e, bitstamp, bitfloor and intersango are pulling volume away.
And since they don't want that they are acting they feel sorry for the people who where in the leaked database list.

I got that email today also, looking forward to getting mine in the post Smiley  Even though they say it can only be used with Mt.Gox it looks like you can also use them with a blockchain.info wallet.

You, sir, are a bullshitter.
Edit: I take it back. As rjk points out below, this was an old, revived thread.

My understanding was that a MtGox Yubikey was a Yubikey with an AES key put into it by MtGox.  Actually, that's two AES keys - one for the short press (logging in), and one for the long press (withdrawing funds).

AES is a symmetric algorithm - in this case, I understand this to mean that MtGox and the key know the same secret number.

That said, I don't understand how can a third party make use of a MtGox Yubikey without knowing that number?

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable.  I never believe them.  If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins.  I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion.  Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice.  Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.
