This is just a pr stunt, and will probably not move the price that much.

It will definitely help. He actually recommends people investing in it if they have money to invest.

Not when he was asked in the news piece he said something along the lines "I will tell you off the record". Not giving me the sense he is 100% into bitcoins I would say this would give him about 60%.

Or perhaps he just wanted to keep his personal investment decisions private?  I think it fun news and the meme, "to the moon", certainly gets a nice boost with this.   Wink

Hey if it was in my price range I be signing up to go to the moon LMAO

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

does anyone hear seriously believe that he has not kept some Bitcoin for himself given his actions?

he's probably in the middle of trying to accumulate and doesn't want to drive the price too high.

I believe he definitely has.  He's a smart man and knows a good thing when he sees it.

Regardless if he does or not, this PR can only help out BTC.  I don't see how it can bring any negative attention.

Bitcoin to the moon, literally. Well actually will need Golden Spike to accept bit coin for that to really happen. At current rates Satoshi could actually afford it!

You are all missing the REAL news here...

From the blog:
"One future astronaut, a female flight attendant from Hawaii, has already purchased her Virgin Galactic ticket using bitcoins"

Smoothie is a woman!!!  Grin

Come on how many early adopters from HI can there be?  Biggest troll on bitcointalk is a female flight attendant...  honestly it makes a strange kind of sense.

Depends on if the story is picked up and run with by major news companies ala BBC.

Sir Richard Branson has his fingers in many pies with Virgin, including Virgin Bank. It could be seen to regular folk that this is something worth looking at with him being a rather successful entrepreneur!

Imagine if he decided to accept Bitcoins for Virgin Airlines? Or used Virgin Bank to help with a bitcoin exchange. Sure its highly doubtful, but many others could be thinking the same things.

I'd say that's the biggest impact. He's a well respected all-rounder.

Richard Branson is also on the board of Square Payments, which make credit card readers for small businesses using a cellphone.  And according to this thread on Reddit:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1r1gu5/starbucks_to_make_announcement_regarding_bitcoin/

they also do all the payments for Starbucks, which they are saying are going to announce taking bitcoins next week.

Remains to be seen, but if Starbucks announces that they are taking bitcoins, I don't even know what will happen to the price.

This is what I have learned from this thread:

1) Richard Branson owns some bitcoins

2) Richard Branson thinks bitcoins are cool

3) Richard Branson says people should consider investing in bitcoin if they can

4) Richard Branson is going to sell space flights "2 Da Moon" with bitcoin

... FUCK

Ok, I guess now we need the obligatory step 5:

5) motherfucking PROFIT

I want to see a full bitcoin node with blockchain in space. Surely it would not be difficult to install the client software on a satellite.

This sounds like a job for Branson... a functioning validating bitcoin node in outer space would be a great PR stunt. We gotta throw some comments on Branson's blog, maybe he'll get the idea... lol.

A ticket to the moon is in the ~100 billions dollars range.
Even Satoshi could not afford one right now !

I believe a ticket to the moon via Virgin starts at about $250K, so easily affordable by a Bitcoin early adopter.

Moon isn't 100 or so km away. I think the ticket you get with 250k is just for some very low earth orbit or something
