Can anyone tell me is Bitcoin QT 4.8.3 the same as 0.8.5? When I was told I should update my wallet I downloaded the latest 0.8.5 from Bitcoin.org, when I run it and check in the "about qt" section it tells me that it is version 4.8.3. When I check about bitcoin it says it is 0.8.5. Also I have a wallet on a computer that has been running 24 hours a day for weeks. It has a wallet on there that has been up to date for some time, today when I checked it it tells me it is 23 hours behind and it doesn't appear to be updating despite having 8 nodes connected.

At the top it has this written "Warning: Displayed transactions may not be correct! You may need to upgrade, or other nodes may need to upgrade."

Can anyone tell me if this is a new issue of suggest any trouble shooting methods to get syncing to happen again? I'm running windows 7 ultimate with Microsoft Security Essentials and have made an acceptation in the firewall as well as excluding Bitcoin from the checked processes

I've backed up my bitcoin wallet

Thanks

Edit 2 hours later,

I"m effing scared, WTF is happening... now it's 26 hours behind and seems to be stuck at block 270914. It's telling me it's synchronizing and has 8 active connections but this is the same block it was on 2 hours ago!?!?! would someone PLEASE take a look at this.

(I swear when I come across problems like this I wonder if Mr Andreson and his team of "Experts" are trying to ruin BTC from within. This is exactly the problem that the download was supposed to solve)

I have several PC's and have tried downloading the latest version from bitcoin.org on another computer. It says it's version 0.8.5 but when I run it and check in the "about" section i find that it is still version 4.8.3

This is a fresh installation on a computer that's never had a wallet.

The wallet keeps seems to be updating the block chain ok but then periodically just closes itself.

I don't want to shout about these problems, I like the high prices we are seeing right now, but I'm pretty disappointed in the so call "leadership" Gavin and all the bootlickers suck

Edit 12 hours later

I'm now 36 hours behind and still no signs of catching up despite having connections to 8 peers

Qt is 4.8.3 which is the toolkit used for cross-platform GUI basically. Go to help->about bitcoin and make sure that says v0.8.5.

As of my posting the current number of blocks is 271139

go to help->debug window and see what your estimated total blocks shows... you might need to manually add a peer that can give you some blocks you need. There seems to be a bit of a bandwidth shortage with all the new full clients coming online downloading the whole blockchain. I know I upload 40GB/day to this.

Thanks, ok i checked and it is definitely 0.8.5 and as you say it's running on the qt platform 4.8.3 (I didn't realise they where different)

I have been to the debug window but I'm not sure what commands to use to get that info.

when I hover over the bottom right hand corner it tells me that it estimates 271136 is the latest one and still is at block 270914 (now 37 hours behind and no sign of catching up)

Also how to I manually add a peer? can you help in that regard? are you able to share it publicly or would that create more problems for you?

Thanks

You don't get help by saying that Bitcoin developers are boot lickers.

If you pick "about Qt", 4.8.3 is the version of Qt you will be shown.

You can view the end of the debug file to see what is happening. Likely the blockchain download is corrupted from your computer crashing. Bitcoin Qt works, such problems are usually bad user hardware. There's a search box where you can look for things like "stuck downloading blocks", but the typical solution is to reindex the blockchain that you've downloaded so far, and if that doesn't work, delete it and start again.

That seems rather counter intuitive.

I'm now 36 hours behind and still no signs of catching up despite having connections to 8 peers

well, it's better to be connected to one peer when downloading the blockchain

since many peers either have limited upstream & some are just BS (like the 129.132 set)

Ah that's interesting, should I delete some peers then? how would I do that?

I'm now 37 hours behind and still at block 270914. I've tried restarting my computer, also I've now got it downloaded on another computer succesfully so it's obviously something to do with this one computer, can I use my back up keys to add the funds to a different wallet?

Would the bitcoin QT conflict with any other wallet programs? I've got LTC, FTC, XPM and PPC all on the same computer?

Thanks

I've successfully copied the entire blockchain from one computer to another, so maybe you can do this?
