Is there actually a causal reason for them holding the overwhelming majority of coins? I don't see why XRP couldn't just be mined.

As Ripple does not use PoW to secure their block chain, the distribution of native currency is not given by hashrate distribution. In practice you can get enough XRP for a long time for the price of a hamburger and won't need to use XRP after that, so unless you want to speculate on their value (which is something I wouldn't recommend personally), you don't need to care about how much they are worth anyways.

The ripple protocol is definitely worth trying out. These were bitcoiners that produced it.  However, as Sukrim consistently states he wouldn't invest in XRP, I say why not throw $100 at it and let the dumb speculation take it to the ATH again one day and use that 2K profit for more bitcoin or whatever you prefer.

I don't consider 100 USD "investing"... Wink

Feel free to play the altcoin lottery if you like that kinda stuff, it's nothing for me.

Simple.. it was premined 100%

All coins that are premined 100% are scammy period. /case closed

edit:
They also started a massive giveaway here tricking everyone on the forum to sign up at a site for coins but never gave any out.
i fell for it too Sad

see this..
Do you think coins with (full) IPO/premines will succeed and be popular/mainstream?
You can't premine a mine-less currency.

Get your facts straight.

http://ripplescam.org/

Found this site interesting

Forget about ripplescam.org. As far as I know that's site belongs to a well known scammer here, who seen ripple for some reason as a threat for his business.

I think people get wrapped around the XRP aspect of Ripple which is such a small piece of what the Ripple network is. Honestly it took me almost a year to really dig in and figure it out. Once we moved towards integration I started seeing the advantages of Ripple the network. Debate about the coin aspect all day sure, but the network is really worth looking into. You will of course need about 50-100 XRP to get started but honestly I think that is less than a penny. https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/XRP_BTC
