if you have more than 1000 dollars worth of bitcoins it worth putting it all on a cold wallet and make a copy of that wallet to put in a safety deposit box.

From the very start, all these crypto currencies are just that, currencies. They were supposed to be money. They should be treated like money. Ohhhh, welllll.....

The guy supposedly works in IT and he:

1. Failed to keep any HDD backup;
2. Threw out the old HDD without checking it first;
3. Failed to destroy the HDD before throwing it out.

So if the story is to be believed he is some IT guy.

Small correction: he MINED them, not bought. Then his girlfriend complained his pc was too noisy and he quitted. Smiley

Even intelligent people don't apply to themselves what they ask for others.

I always make a total backup of my previous computer, my mails are in two places, "synchronised" by hand for I'm not that good in IT.

I have a safe in my house ad in my computer too.

I give my old PC to the school, not the landfill !!!

His girlfriend has now left him because he lost so much money. For pity's sake someone send him the Samaritan's phone number.

It was also on the BBC 6 oclock news, poor guy! I would think we'll hear more stories like this as their must have been a lot of people in 2009/10 who bought/mined for the fun for a few months then moved onto something else.

Youd think the landfill site company would have their diggers working day and night to find it, if he offers them 25%, theyve cleared £1mill for a few weeks work.

Maybe this forum should get 20 volunteers, all to start searching this dump Cheesy  Who knows, we might eventually find it, and cash in.  That wouldn't be wrong would it?

Actually this story can be found in a UK daily newspaper. He has no involvement with any Bitcoin forum and has not asked for any donations. There must be a thousand and one hard luck stories with having lost Bitcoins or sold cheaply. He is not unique.
