You need to just be active and post a lot.  However with the new merit system it is a lot more difficult to rank up.  Make sure you make quality posts with good grammar and your on your way to ranking up.

Yes, indeed. You just have to keep your account active by doing posts everyday specially to those topic who only have few pages of comments and your post must be correct so that it will be counted as activities.

In what forum would you get a rank just from creating an account? 
I'm relatively new here and I noticed this merit system and it's quite confusing, so one can only become Jr. Member from activity, and after that, it comes from merit.

It's tough to rank up. But you can. You need to post good with value. Grammar, spelling also do matter here. Your activities also matter. So to rank up this is all you need to do.

Even if you registered in 2017 you are Newbie as your Activity is still 4.  To become a Jr. Member rank you need 30 Activity.  For Member or higher rank, you also need to satisfy the merit requirement.  Read this thread:

Well, to be honest, the first question you should do to yourself is "Why I need to rank up?".
Be careful with becoming obsessed with ranking up, for it is now quite difficult due to the merit system. Nevertheless, you can learn from the best. Just take a look at the posting activity of users as DdmrDdmr or Bitmover, both have rank up in no time, thanks to their amazing contributions.
So, just learn from the best, be humble and never beg for merits or such a kind of attitudes.

You can have the account as long as you want but you need to post and be active! If you do not post then nothing will happen your activity will stay the same and you will never be able to rank up in that case. So make sure you post!!

From my findings, there are two things that are key: posting constructively and being active. It is never by how old your account is. For you to have created your account since 2017 and still remained a newbie confirms that you have never been active. Follow the discussions and contribute constructively and am sure you will grow. Am also advicing myself as we are still in the same rank.
