This forum is totally unfriendly for local users. Beside the issue with moderation you can check the merit circulation in local sections. Theymos either don't care about those local plebs or the merit system was designed to prevent them from ranking up.
Anyway meybe those boards are not getting spammed and they don't really need to be moderated.
Then send this list to Theymos..
...and be ignored Smiley

There may or may not be moderators, but Theymos definitely has appointed merit sources in the local boards. The two could be interconnected. Maybe if the local boards are better moderated and have less spam, the local merit sources would find it easier to give merits in these boards

The forum strives to allow free discussion of any ideas. All policies are built around this principle. This doesn't mean you can post garbage, though: posts should actually contain ideas, and these ideas should be argued reasonably.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

Can any OG member or staff or moderator answer the following question? If posts are reported in sections that don't have mods, how are those posts handled? Do they go to a global queue of some sort for other mods to handle these submissions? If so, then would it be beneficial for users to report posts in these mod-less boards, or would their reports be pointless?

I might be wrong, but if my memory serves me right; during one of the discussions (possibly the one where a mod for Politics and society section was to be appointed) it was told that such reports go to Global Mods; also I think there was a concept of troopers on BitcoinTalk.  Guess the answer is too hazy... Huh

If this is the case, then the users of the particular boards that OP is talking about should be able to click on the "Report to moderator" link to at least bring attention to posts that break the rules. It might be wise to select a moderator for these boards based on how many posts they have accurately reported, along with a review of their history on the forums.

It is the case that the 5 global moderators have to deal with reports on boards without their own moderator. The number of those reports would be the thing that brings it to their attention that a local moderator is needed. If nobody is bothering to report things then it probably looks like everything is OK.

Yes, this was also the case when mods were appointed for Politics and Society board.

Posts are being reported; but guess theymos has his own reasons or he simply doesn't care. In fact there are a few suitable candidates in my humble opinion for the Indian board too; but dunno why the issue has failed to elicit any response.

Am I misunderstanding something here? If it gets reported, then one of those mods need to pick it up. Then, for every message, they need to translate it into their native language and then work out if it's spam. That seems a lot of effort for every message unless they get the webpage translated in its entirety.

I love all of my cute forum users. 💓

Adage: Actions speak louder than words...

It's really time to do something. I think one (or more) moderator(s) already reported to you the issues some local forums are facing. It's not a fantasy it's a reality. Some local forums are not usable anymore for a long time. Sometimes there are more bots than members.

Not long ago while reporting in the French section, nothing was moderated, guess what? It's a moderator from another section who did the job. (@ricky---) And no sorry it isn't an isolated case.
You ask to report, we do, but we get nothing, so what a member can do more? Leave the local forum.....

I don't know what can be the issue you see to increase or replace the staff but trying something else can't really be worst than what some sections get.

It's not so cool for the folks interested in cryptocurrencies but don't understand English. They are limited to their native language but when they see the mess I don't think it is motivating to read or participate in discussions. As a result instead to get people interested in cryptocurrencies local section get people interested to use the forum as a cash cow instead...

Appointing a moderator is fine, but there's several factors that theymos would need to consider. I doubt he's just going to appoint someone just because a few reports are made now and then. I have no idea how bad it is in the french section or any other, but it depends on how many reports are being made. Plus, then it's appointing a member who is trustworthy and isn't going to use his position with ill intent.

I'm not sure if you've thought about this, but in the past a few local boards have had a sort of an election/voting system to appoint a moderator among the community. You could try that whether theymos looks at that and follows that advice will be another thing.

The French section is bad as to get Ripple talks in BTC news, referral links spams, scams attempts, and so on. Not long ago I said soon a lady will open a topic about her mentruation in the dev section and another about the blood volume in the speculation section.
I think members have stopped using the report button because they see it as useless. For example, I remember 2 users, who tired of the mess, spend few hours to report everything where an action was needed. They did it for nothing at the end. I did it too to test with a section and the result was the same

Within a year we had 5-6 topics opened by users (including me) asking the opinion for a new moderator or another one. It's something every member agree with. It's not a question anymore for us. We all agree with the idea to get a new moderator. We even agreed together with how to change the local forum to make everyone happy. the general opinion is to get something like the English subforums.

I admit appointing a member who is trustworthy may be not easy, but with a "Legendary" member who is using the forum actively for years, you have less risk. And as for "abusing power", I don't see how it can be done (I may be naive about this)
If you create a friendly environment you don't get much trouble to moderate a community. Everyone enjoy and at the end, you don't have much to do

I've fallen into this trap before that when things aren't getting dealt with you stop reporting, but this isn't the answer as there needs to be reports over a somewhat long time to get a general idea of how widespread the issue is. theymos could go and look at the french section and see that there's a lot of spam, but he doesn't know if this collates to other days. I would advise not to give up on reporting, and ask your fellow french members to not either.

Abuse could happen, but it isn't very likely and I don't think this has happened in the past? I suppose someone could use their rank as a way of persuasion, or they could target certain members that they've previously had disputes with. This would likely be brought up very quickly and addresses by theymos but, it's better to eliminate this risk by appointing someone who can be trustworthy in the first place.

If you think that theymos doesnt love the forum, then can we ask do you love the forum? Do your local board people love the forum? If yes, then make some contribution, gather your locals, and make the list of you trusted members who are willing to be moderators. If you love the forum, you will at least initate that even though you dont get the attention from your locals or admin. If.

Thanks to all for your replies and Suggestions .

I noticed some of the user said that Send a list of Members who wanted to Moderate the Sub-Forum to Theymos. But what will happen with that. We all Know Theymos will ignore that. Same happened with the Indian Sub forum when some users posted here that they need Mod but their request is ignored.

Moreover Theymos doesn't have Guts to answer here. He loves Hiding.

I am not sure I read, but sometime I read threads in which Theymos or one of the forum mods said that they can not find the appropriate mods to manage several local boards, such as Vietnamese board.
I come from Vietnam, and at the first time I joined the forum, I knew that Vietnamese board was locked due to 2 main reasons:
1) Over abusements there.
2) The forum can not find mods who know Vietnamese.
Is he aware what wrong is going on the local sections ? I guess No. If he do knows then he would have chosen the Mods right now.

It might be because there are mods who know those languages, so they can manage those local boards.
These are the two Local Forums which have many less topics created but they have the Mods.

So @Theymos have you been recently to any of the Local Forums , if you have been then you could have understand the problem. Many of the topics are not in right section. Some are spamming the sections with their referral links. Some too using automatic translations in the forum.

An admin who takes up the pain to change code just to make the members smile on April fools day (2018) is being labeled as a person who does not love the forum. I need not post anything more here.

Thread I am referring to: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3232693.0

There's no knowing what theymos will do, but he might appreciate a list of people who would be willing to do it, and if he feels there's a need for it to be moderated then he can articulate his opinions based on that list. He's only recently asked the community to give their input on who should moderate the Politics and Society section so he does listen to the community when he feels it's best too.

Yes, he doesn't normally leave a position of the forum unappointed when there's a need and someone who can fill the slot.

Potentially produce some sort of shortlist on a thread fore each section that is without a moderator. The shortlist should be Sr members plus at least (theymos isn't going to trust someone who has only been here a few weeks to run a board of the forum - with a higher ranked account there's more for the user to lose).

Although, theymos has made users that have been lower ranked than Sr Member. I believe rickbig was one of these members. Of course, I would agree that higher ranked members have less of a risk associated with them, but certainly not in all cases.

The "Salaries" that you speak of are a percentage from ad revenue based on an unknown algorithm made by theymos which probably takes into account how much a staff member has done for that period. It wouldn't cost theymos anymore, however it would reduce the earnings of the current moderators.

I doubt that you read all of the OP, there are local boards that are less active yet they still have mods
