Can you actually take him to court because you can prove it he received it? And you have all communications with him.

Yes, I can prove with the blockchain.info link that it was sent and received into his bitcoin wallet.  The difficult part is trying to decide whether or not to reveal certain other info regarding why he wanted the $555 in bitcoins that day.

Is it possible you could be held liable for aiding a crime?

Oh, the sad, sad guy.

Cyber fraud and cyberstalking? I'm willing to bet you've got the right guy.

it's the right guy - he's 24.  also, the "festival" he was buying for is mentioned on his fb profile page ... and the whole "oh, i'm a yoga instructor so i would never invite bad karma on myself" bullshit helped identify him as well because on his fb he talked about wanting to become a yoga instructor, and the yoga school messaged my friend saying they dismissed Chandler without a certificate.

lol.

it's the right guy.
Cool.

Give him a few days to return the funds, or cancel the PayPal action, if he doesn't then file a police report. It won't cost anything and won't take long.

Just because it's BitCoin doesn't mean you should do any thing less than you would if he hacked you bank and stole $555.

I think he was confused when you said Cancel the paypal transaction. He had a transaction canceled on him.

That's like blaming the bank for giving a guy a loan to support his "crack" habit... Makes no sense.

selling digital computer code that may or may not be used as a medium of exchange and/or to buy drugs is NOT an crime.

If I sold someone a hammer and he beat you over the head with it.  Am I liable.   Ahh NO.  Now if I told someone  I would buy him a hammer if he would beat you over the head with it and he does and that could be proved in a court of law then that is a different story.

If he's reading this thread, and senses you're not going to do any thing about it, you won't see any of it back.

He scammed you, now you have two options:
Report it, and potentially see a return.
Do nothing, get nothing.

technically, he mentioned needing bitcoins for stuff for a festival.  i didn't ask what stuff, nor did he tell me.

by the way, the email he sent saying he had no idea what i was talking about or whatever because he lives in colorado ... well, the ip:

Well, this has taken up enough of our day.  Thank you all for your help and support - I think though that I have to accept my loss and move on.  I firmly believe that karma will find its way to him one day.  He's quite a piece of (crappy) work.
