Quote
Bitcoin, a fully encrypted and fully digital currency, has been used by a recent client of ours to pay for a Tesla Model S Performance we had in our inventory.  That's right, an electronic currency was used to purchased a fully electric vehicle.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

In a few years everyone will be amazed that he spent enough bitcoin on a Tesla Model S to buy a G6  (Gulfstream, not Pontiac).  Cheesy

That Tesla sure is nice looking. Quite funny the news came just now, as I was watching a documentary about electric cars and how close Tesla was to going bankrupt.

Yes but hondas and toyotas are in the same league. Tesla's are nowhere near lambo's. Actually is an insult even mentioning lamborghini and that crappy electrical things in the same sentence.

I don't think anybody knows.

During the senate hearing, IRS said they were still "working on clarifications".

+1 for the Tesla.

Elon Musk should be taking his USD 5K Tesla deposits in BTC - for conversion to USD at purchase/delivery time. He'd get more than a few takers on that.

I don't think anybody knows.

During the senate hearing, IRS said they were still "working on clarifications".

If you buy a raffle ticket for a car and win the car, you have the claim the car as income... wouldn't this be similar?

So you have two options I suppose, either one record the capital gains and then purchase your car.

Or say you spent X on something that earned you a car worth $XX,XXX and claim the $XX,XXX - $X as "other income."

Do whichever has the lower tax rate?
