It's funny that the Americans when they see something like that, they think about shooting it.
And it's not so funny that people in some countries when they see one of those actually get shot .

Well I was ironic. Of course it is not funny. That's the culture of violence that I was pointing at.

What if there's a shitload of trees in your yard? Do they just bomb your house with the package?

Imagine a fleet of these things loaded with explosives and used by a foreign invader. "General did you order something from Amazon?" BOOM

In the future they should build one the size of a helicopter that can deliver generators and lawnmowers. lol
Military drones already exist and are already being used in battles

Am I the only one that notices the drones will provably deliver the package to an address, NOT A PERSON (are they really waiting for a signature or checking someone from inside the house gets the package?), I understand, outside the house? If so anyone can
  • Steal the package
  • Steal the drone while they're delivering (this has obviously already been said by everyone Smiley )
?
I can't see how this will work. Or have I missed something?

No, you haven't missed anything. As a lot of people suspect, they don't seem to be feasible or practical as a delivery method, and this is all most likely just a publicity stunt. There's an article in this thread somewhere about all the free publicity Amazon got from it.

Somehow, I see this technology putting snipers outta business. Sight 10 enemy soldiers 3 miles out, and deploy 10 stinking insect drones.

Seems like modern day warfare has evolved so much that it is no longer a matter of how many casualties a technology can take out, but how to destroy or furthermore control an entire civilization via manipulation and/or infiltration.

Only if you live within a half-hour radius of a distribution centre, so I'm guessing this will exclude the majority of people.

Jeff Bezos should stfu and try generating a profit for his company sometime instead of rambling about delivery drones.

And start paying taxes. I'm pretty sure this whole drone thing is just a publicity stunt, and it worked; look at all the free advertising he got out of it.

This, free advertisement. You have to be creative to come with something new to get media attention, even if it dont work well you may get free advertisement

If this was any other company but Amazon, I'd agree.  What bothers me about this is knowing that Jeff Bezos is completely serious about spending a large amount of cash to try to make this happen.  This company gives nearly 0 fucks about advertising.  The only thing they've advertised on TV is the Kindle.  They have little interest or utility in free publicity.

This drone situation is compounded by the fact that drugs are coming over the border via drones, now.  How long till one of these cartels (probably the Sinaloa cartel) dress up a drone with an Amazon banner?  It's not a stretch, they already operate fully-submersible subs.  Besides, the liability that this kind of operation entails is not something Amazon is exactly fond of.  It will take one person getting hit in the face by one of these things to make the whole operation a fucking disaster.

Have you ever seen a map of active flights over airspace in the U.S.?  It looks fucking ridiculous, intitially, you wonder how more of these jets don't smash into each other.  The last thing anyone in the aviation field needs or wants is to be dealing with commercial drones on their radars during take-offs and landings.

Before any of these concerns can really be addressed, there is the matter of the FAA.  They will do everything they can short of invoking a national security clause to stop this pipe-dream from happening. (they may even do that)

Therefore, I reiterate, Jeff Bezos should stfu and look into more productive shipping methods.   They spend billions of dollars in shipping costs every year, driving their investors up the wall.  Why not open up a dedicated shipping and delivery service instead of paying out the ass to use existing third-party methods?  They could even buy-out an existing service to save time and get a head start on acquiring equipment and facilities.

A bit of FUD in #78. Commercial drones will likely have a much lower min safe alt and max ceiling than helicopters, be prohibited in controlled airspace, and various other safety regs will apply. I wouldn't be surprised to see some similarities to FAR Part 103 (ultralights).

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.
