Hey, I've been following the whole Bitcoin phenomenon for a while not... obvious regret for not buying in sooner haha... but I'm wondering where I should start to dabble in the crypto-currencies?

I have $1000 I can afford to play with and let sit for a while if need be. Honestly, I'm a little more attracted to LiteCoin and PeerCoin but would it be smarter to invest in the even smaller coins?

Litecoin should be the best, but remember: do not buy until it goes back under $30!

that's what i'm trying to find out for myself too.. litecoin, peercoin are raising every day and this sound promising.. same for the others small crypto, any idea? because with such a "small" investment if used on BTC, you should sell&buy on daily basis to get some revenue (if enough time to follow the market)

Quark and Novacoin are scamcoins, NVC is 95% (AFAIK) premined.

You could try FTC after it goes down to 0.00050.

Why do you say that?

I still think there are some that hold some ground... DGC / WDC I guess, no?

FTC, XPM and TRC seem like a good choice. He's lying, I have earned 200% on FTC.

Spread your investments. Buy smaller amounts of several coin, so if one tanks you don't lose everything.

I'd add Protoshares to the list of possible investments, it's a bit different.

I'd suggest Anoncoin. 4.2 million total means they will be less around so if they do become popular they could rise in value substantially.

As already advised, spread your investment over a few coins to avoid a disaster!

Quark in case it succeeds, after that Digitalcoin, Stablecoin, and Worldcoin.

QRK is a scamcoin, probably heavily premined.

Anyway, I'm going to make my own coin if someone's interested.

If you delve deeper into it you realise that it does matter because Miners used Quark to dump to get BTC.

After a lot of research i realised its not a scamcoin at all.

If i were you i would invest Bit,Lite and QuaRKcoin. Quarkcoin has rised alot in a short time and is very cheap for investing now.
85% bitcoin, 10% litecoin,5% Quarkcoin is what i do.

if you just want to invest and not care about it on a daily basis, i suggest spreading the money into the leading coins for each algorithm: bitcoin (sha-256) litecoin (skrypt) and maybe a little in one of the new multi-algo-coins (QRK or SRC)

in my opinion most other altcoins apart from that are just clones with little use apart from exchange rate speculation. there is some money to be made from that, but it needs some effort.

some altcoins have a special feature or two to seperate them from the rest, feel free to gamble some bucks on them for the long run, but don't invest your life savings...
