BTC is already to popular to be replaced by an altcoin. I can see it going up to 10k too... Someday ;-)

I think bitcoin will be replaced by better alt coins. EG more secure, faster etc.  Bitcoin is awesome but there are a lot of innovative new coins that are much better suited to commercial transactions.

Personally I hate waiting for confirmations with bitcoin.. it takes so damn long!

You apparently dont understand how Bitcoin works. 0 confirmations is enought for small payments. If you transfer bigger sum, like 0.1+ BTC, You might wait for 1 confirmation to be sure

The Winklevoss twins think it can realistically hit $40k/coin

That's a pretty safe bet in my eyes

I doubt it will reach $10,000.
Either a new crypto currency which proves to be better will come along or it just simply won't reach 10k.

mtgox needs to be destroyed for stability

You think that the prices will be stable once we ban Mt Gox? Volatility will be three for many more years to come. And you cannot blame Mt Gox for that.

This fit my $25,000-$125,000 estimate, but 5-10 years

2016, not sonner, $10,000 is a lot of money
On the other side 1 BTC is a lot of all Bitcoins in existnce, not like trillions of dollars in existence...

I doubt it'll hit that much, the price is too volatile as it stands already, and any item is unsustainable for long periods of time at those prices.

Its limited issue, the very thing that is making it popular, could very well be its downfall (don't forget, the majority of people that have joined the bandwagon, are doing so because of its popularity, which is in turn driving the price up. Once the minting limit is hit, they will simply move on to the next one.), or the price will stabilise and will just be circulated amongst a select few that wish to trade in bitcoins and collect them.

We shall see.

I for one would love to see a cryptocurrency become a solid currency! I really hope Bitcoins are that currency!!

If you follow the charts, you will notice that they are not leading anymore. in some moments they are hanging on place 4 even...
so maybe your wishes will become true soon...

Enjoy your life!

I believe Bitcoin will continue to lead the charge rather than being usurped by another coin, it's the trailblazer with the infastructure built around it, litecoin is 2nd, it's going to be interesting which coin is going to hold 3rd spot through 2014, my view is quark will move into that position through February-march next year.

I recall Bitcoin at £2.00 when it reached £20.00 I remember thinking it just can't go any higher......can it ?  Grin now anythings possible only 6-12 months ago it was considered experimental now half of the world is poised to invest.
Bitcoin is gong to shock and oar throughout 2014 you'll be able to hear the deafening sound of jaws dropping around the globe $10,000 - $20,000 $50,000 the stage is set for explosive growth.

Disclaimer : this is my view do your own research draw your own conclusions, any CryptoCurrency carries with it risk - only invest what you can afford to lose that way your able to ride the volatility up and down without any sleepless nights.

I doubt, dont forget next year there will be new altcoins and new people might join the early adoption illusion again. Today or future altcoins will not replace Bitcoin, altcoins are just pump and dump schemes without even caring to build infrastructure

I think it will be in 2014. The bitcoin rises in waves, maybe somewhere in 2014 there will be a next wave and go to $10.000.
At least I hope so  Grin
But I also think alternative coins will eat some marketvalue out of Bitcoin.

I find this all to be such an amazing concept.
However unless it is someday somewhat connected to the real life ( i.e. regulated to some extend ), I find it hard to believe it will end up being the currency/coin of tomorrow for everyone (at least as is).

How can you use it to buy actual goods on a regular basis if the value fluctuates in such a way that it does currently?

So at the moment this is "just" to me an intrument of speculation before it turns out to get mature  (which I have no idea in which actual shape).

Having said that, it is not mainstream yet so I believe it will go up for some time again, but I hardly believe it will reach $10000 as is.

I have to agree, for $10000, Bitcoin have to mature, so not next year.

Lower price movements will happen when coins are distributed to more people, owning even 1 BTC is a lot of Bitcoin supply

Depends if it becomes 'the way to pay'. If it has so much advantages to use it over other currencies, everybody would want to use it.
Then I would say yes.

If it only stays in the realm of speculators, maybe. But then it will be too volatile and in the end never succeed, because then it's really a bubble.
The market cap of Bitcoin is about 10 billion dollar, but when everybody would sell it, it would turn out to be worth a lot less.

But I really believe it is here to stay, because it is a great concept and the innovation has just begun.

BTW, you don't have to own 1BTC to participate in it. A lot of people are scared by the price of 1BTC when introduced.
I know it's psychology, but it is just a random unit. It is now time to use mBTC I think.

Bitcoin only has first mover advantage. Bitcoin is an amazing crypto-currency, however it is time for another to step up to the plate. Have you guys been introduced to Nextcoin yet? 100% POS, it will have an included decentralized exchange and messaging system.

I think Litecoin will hit 100 USD in a few months though.
