Bitcoin Black Friday was a massive success.

Together, we helped make Bitcoin a household word for millions of people, and the Washington Post reported that Bitcoin Black Friday was “the most popular day in the history of Bitcoin commerce.” (1)

Thousands of news outlets covered the event, and many bitcoin merchants and charities got coveted press mentions from the likes of CNN, TIME Magazine, the New York Times, Reuters, CNBC, Mashable, TechCrunch, and Life Hacker (2). Ashton Kutcher, Cory Doctorow, Alexis Ohanian and hundreds of others joined our social media Thunderclap -- which helped us see over 100,000 unique visitors on Black Friday.

Wow. That’s left us feeling excited about what’s to come for Bitcoin, and thrilled to have been part of this with all of you. Here’s a neat infographic with some stats from the day that Jon Holmquist, founder Bitcoin Friday, put together.

Feeling stoked too? You might need the official Bitcoin Black Friday T-Shirt.

Here at Fight for the Future, we like to go big or go home. That’s why we’ve organized some of the largest online protests and events in the history of the Internet (2). We’re a small team and we work around the clock to defend the Internet from censorship and surveillance -- and to protect and foster innovative technologies like Bitcoin that hold so much potential to make the world a more awesome place.

If you’re down with that -- and want to help us keep fighting for Bitcoin and a free and open Internet, please consider making a donation in BTC or USD here -- you can even get the official Bitcoin Black Friday T-Shirt!

Or you can donate bitcoin directly to our wallet: 1LkHu2XoCZnTQogRKXs4VUKMJuzL7WkWtX

We put a huge amount of time, money, and energy into making Bitcoin Black Friday a success, so thank you so much to those of you who are able to give back. We’d also love to stay in touch with all of you, so look for future emails from us, and follow us on Twitter and Facebook to get urgent updates.

We should also all be proud that we helped raise over 1000 bitcoins for a wide variety of charities that participated in Bitcoin Black Friday. That’s a huge amount of money that will be used for good. If you don’t think Bitcoin can be used for good, our charities received $50,000 more that they would have lost by accepting credit cards. Special thanks to the BitGive Foundation who helped rally the charity community for this event.

Finally, a very special shout out to the sponsors of the day who contributed significantly to make it possible. BitPay and Coinbase especially were instrumental in throwing the event.

Now that Bitcoin Black Friday is over, please continue to support Bitcoin Merchants! They need you to support them, otherwise they will drop Bitcoin payment options. Lastly, we might have some other events coming up early this next year, keep an eye out for an email with more info on that!

Thanks so much for participating in Bitcoin Black Friday. Please keep in touch!

Sincerely,

Tiffiniy, Holmes, and Evan from Fight for the Future

Jon Holmquist, Bitcoin Friday founder
