Just a quick update:
Max is working on the RPC tests for 1.14. These are mostly currently set to Bitcoin values and need updating to match Dogecoin, but sometimes this work exposes bugs that can be a lot harder to identify through regular testing.
Patrick is working on continuous integration (Travis), which will help us identify any regressions from later work on 1.14
I'm gathering feedback on first draft of a document making the case for Dogecoin, and tomorrow back to raising PRs
1.14-probably-broken has proved actually quite stable, and I'm beginning to roll it onto further infrastructure. Expect to see the first production network 1.14 node tomorrow.
Patrick reports that services he works with have had problems with Bitcoin Core 0.15 not tracking unspent outputs correctly, to the point that they're reverting to 0.14. That may impact our 1.15 release; at the moment it looks like I'll take 1.15 up to beta stage for forward compatibility testing of 1.14, but it won't be formally released. I'm continuing to rebase 1.14 work on Bitcoin Core 0.15 so we have it ready to clean up and test with, and once 1.14 ships I'll do the same for Bitcoin Core 0.16 to make Dogecoin Core 1.16.
A formal alpha primarily needs the RPC test work to be completed as that will shake out any remaining major snags, and it should then just be a matter of QA stages.

I recently talk to one of my friends about crypto and  Dogecoin is a cool cryptocurrency to invest.  Turn out, he has bought DOGE since 2014. He had have ~ 200k DOGE  that he kept on Cryptsy and he forgot about it until when he heard that Cryptsy is long gone. That was too late and his DOGE has all vanished. Poor that guy.

It is a pity that it is not a small fortune. However, the technology gold content of DOGE coins is not high, and the future development is not good. Now there are too many value coins, so we can focus our attention on other better encryption currencies.

The Darknet message about coming attack to Dogecoin has recently been partially decrypted.

There are three anonimous Russian-speaking commumities, calling themselves «DarkSoul». It has been intercepted they are preparing a Dogecoin pump.
There will be three attacks. On 15 February the first part of the community will artificially raise the Dogecoin cost up to 0.10$ to start gaining monumentum.
After a small adjustment the second part of the community will continue the pump up to 0.5$ on 25 February.
And the third attack will take place on 7 March as their final pump up to 1$ to upgrade Dogecoin...

Now our group is decrypting the next part of the message to learn more about so called «DarkSoul» community.»

What can be done with this coin? What is possible?

Can it be set up like Steemit with a reward pool of DOGE? Or is that impossible?

I'm guessing it cannot be done, so I was thinking of something instead like an ad revenue sharing site, with functions like Reddit, where DOGE could be tipped also, and with the size of the community a premium for ad space could be charged and then shared according to the engagement of the members...

DOGE needs a major project to attract investors, but what kind of projects are possible or what are the limitations? That's what I'm trying to understand.

I saw a lot of optimistic forecasts for this coin, but I'm not sure that they can be trusted. This coin on the market for a long time and the project does not develop as rapidly as other projects. But despite this many people continue to use DOGE. I also use this coin for quick and cheap transactions.

DOGE dont have dedicated developping team for years,just few volunteers who do something from time to time when they have some spare time.

Obviously,this is a major problem and reason why DOGE is lost in space for so long while other coins get more and more investors every day.

DOGE price related to BTC is on the same level from beginning.That is not case with other big coins and is a result of lack of new investors.

One quick pump/dump every year and that is it.

Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dodge, most of the early coins. They're purpose is to be a currency. There aren't "investors", there are currency traders, i.e. forex. Pretty much all "coins", with coins being a misnomer for them as it implies currency, are products and you're effectively buying stock in them. There's a big difference and what people keep asking for is to turn the coin from being a currency into being a product. IMO if you want a product you should look elsewhere.
