In my forecast, the whole crypto market will take off (exponential growths) some time around the June of 2018. Dogecoin, of course, will be not only exception of the common upward trend. At the moment, we have stayed at the beginning of this upward trend. Be smart, sell at highs, buy back at lows (should be at bottoms), and take as much profits as possible.
Some day this year, Dogecoin will surpass 100 satoshi one more time in its life-span.

It can easily surpass that 100 satoshis in a few days. I'm absolutely confident it will happen in April.

So why is doge coin still a thing. Does it have any value proposition? any real world use case? I like the donation/charity concept it had when it started, it doesn't seem that's the route for the coin anymore, so what's its purpose?

Bcore isn't that relevant anymore... the cryptocurrencies are correlated, but they don't move because some other coin does it first. When the reversal happened a week ago, a number of major cryptos started to move at the same time. In fact, Doge began to rally 2 days prior to BTC. It doesn't matter so much what Bcore (BTC) or any other coin does specifically, just what the overall condition of the market is as a whole.

Okay serious answer; the pitch is it's like Bitcoin, but 10x faster, several times the maximum number of transactions (will be 10x if/when we adopt SegWit), a fraction of the cost to use, has an adorable mascot, newbie friendly and the price is less volatile than Bitcoin so it's vaguely possible to price stuff in it. Heck, stores might even be able to keep it and be confident they can pay suppliers with it at the end of the month without it having gained or lost 50% of its value depending on the weather.

It seems that Dogecoin team of devs have turned back to business. It is really good signals for near future developements of Dogecoin project.
I highly recommend to buy Dogecoin when it fall a bit after considerable rises recent days; then hodl it and wait to take profits at somewhere over 100 satoshi.

After several years of development, Dogecoin has proved to be a stable coin, and I have confidence in it.

The recent rebound in the DOGE coin has been quite good in many encrypted currencies, and the coin still deserves to be expected to have several large bands in 2018.

NEW RELEASE

This is the third alpha release of Dogecoin Core 1.14! It contains an important bugfix from the previous alpha, and you are recommended to upgrade. This update changes the default transaction version generated from 2 to 1, so that they are understood by 1.10 clients. Previously the transactions were ignored by old clients and therefore never mined on the production network. We'll update to version 2 transactions in a later release.

The alert system has also been re-added to this version, and live money tests have started with this version. It's essentially a beta candidate, although further cleanup is expected before there is a formal beta.

Important notes:

This is not a binary release, you must be comfortable compiling it yourself.
Please do not mine on the production network with this release, as it would trigger a soft fork earlier than expected.

The key tasks before the final 1.14 release include:

Update Gitian builds to support OS X.
Stress test the release on the test network.
Hard disable (i.e. rip out) upgrading via version bits as it poses a risk to AuxPoW if there's any mistakes in it being disabled currently.
