The reason I knew this is that Bitcoin will go mainstream next year but its transactions are way too expensive and when volume picks up Bitcoin will not be able to handle the transactions size.

LTC and doge [together] solve the tx volume and high tx cost issues for Bitcoin.

I agree that if bitcoin gains more popularity, it'll likely pull the DOGE up. Simply, if someone put some effort to learn about bitcoin, than he/she is very likely to try the other cryptos as well, and DOGE is one of the most popular and easier to get.

Don't really see what's the strenght of LTC nowadays tho. Bitcoin is (was and will be) more popular as both, functional currency or investment. Dogecoin has low tx fees, creates more hype and reaches to a new people. Think LTC will be slowly losing its position.

If LTC goes then so will DOGE.  DOGE people just need to take the back seat n shut the fuck up Cheesy DOGE needs LTC @ this point and relies on it.

Even if BTC goes up it won't effect how there isn't enough BTC to fill the endless DOGE void in the long term.  Therefore, long term BTC investors (the type of investors you want) will steer clear of this I believe and it will be left with the day traders/gamblers to bleed out.

I sound like a broken record, but the main thing I hear from BTC fans is that there will only be 21 mil.  Cap the coin! 100,000,000,000 strong!

The no cap takes the wind out of the sails of the people how claim Bitcoin is a ponzi. It also is of no issue for every day usage as it is far better suited to buy a sandwich than Bitcoin is.

...So basically this price action is driven by the upcoming block reward reduction...

Not only block reward reduction plays a role, here is some points I outlined elsewhere, copying to this thread:

1) Dogecoin has a strong developer Langer_hans, who is very active and recently released version 1.8 which supports auxPoW, which means other scrypt coins are starting to add to the hashrate of Doge.

2) Doge has bottomed and not going any lower (lowest was 20 satoshi), it takes only a few bitcoins to keep it afloat above that level, while Litecoin still has a lot of downside.

3) Doge community is second to Bitcoin only, and the school year just starting, the community will grow more as kids are back in school and share their passion with friends and actively involve them in (for) Dogecoin trading.

4) Dogecoin has a lot of coins, which some think looks bad, but in reality it appeals to people's self-importance, which is especially attractive to kids, and hence Doge will continue to have a large audience.

5) Doge is being added to twitch.tv as a tipping tool this week, it has a very good chance to become a tipping coin of the Internet, again due to its large coin base, which enlarges adoption by orders of magnitude. Other developers are making tipping tools that use Doge for other popular websites too.

6) Dogeparty project.

Thanks for laying all this out devphp, at least it is a coherent story.  However, all this has been true for awhile, I'm surprised the price action has been so strong to the upside.  Of course, I was surprised by the constant decline of the last few months so maybe I ought to give up forecasting doge prices!  Smiley

BAC you've run hot and cold on doge.  While I am not a fan of No Limit Ever and worry about Too Many Coins at least Doge is doing something different and, while diminished, the community is still relatively strong.

Good Luck.

Good Luck.

I thought what was different about it back in December was how fast it would reach the cap.

It is strong and I do wish it the best of luck.  I really like DOGE and I just want to see the fucker thrive!  I think the chance of that would be better if it was capped and merged... I'm probably not doing the best job of coming off as a DOGE supporter by bitching, but god damn! Cap this thing up, that is the rocket fuel IMO.

We shall see I suppose!

There was an extensive discussion on reddit long time ago. They decided not to. Good decision, if all the coins are mined too soon - who would mine it and support the network? The reward from fees is not sufficient.

DOGE was designed to be functional currency rather than investment. The inflation is necessary and it's got nothing to do with going mainstream. As % value, the inflation will decrease every year, so if DOGE survives the first 2 years, it should be fine.

I am in favour of reducing the final block reward tho.

What do you mean?  Sorry not familiar with who 4Chan is.

He was probably trying to discredit what you said. People in 4chan make the most irrational claims possible.

Go back through this thread and read the hype in February when people where so happy that they passed the hashrate of LTC and how LTC is doomed. What happened next? I'm a doge supporter but what happened was BEGGING for merge mining with LTC to secure the coin.

Are the doge devs even discussing capping doge?  They must be - there is no way doge can ever go mainstream when the inflation is worse than the dollar they're running from.

Again; the inflation is a constant volume, so it drops as a portion of coins over years. As one example, this means in 30 years it will be down to 2%. That also has to compensate for lost coins; in conventional currency money that's too old and taken out of circulation is then re-printed, for Dogecoin if you lose the keys to your wallet those coins are then out of the economy. Compared to most other coins, our supply drops insanely quickly, to the point that I expect that in 6 months people will complain that having mined 2,000% of that year's (2015) supply in 2014, makes it almost a premine. It also gives us plenty of spare for weird experiments that use proof of burn to form new currencies, such as Dogeparty.

Personally, I'm also of the opinion if we lose the inflation, we're exactly the Bitcoin clone with different branding that many of our detractors claim we are.

We have 100-200,000 users (my estimate), stop worrying about 5% and ask how we get the next 1000% increase in users (and even that would only bring us up to Bitcoin-levels).

Dogecoin Core developer, ex-researcher, trader.

Unless stated otherwise, opinions are my own and do not necessarily reflect that of other Dogecoin developers.

What happend to Dogecoin? Are there some big whales have started to eat some cheap nodes?

All the slow Bitcoin millionaires finally realized that what I've been saying is true:  Doge and LTC will be added to BitPay et al and be pushed mainstream next year.  Doge should hit a $1 billion valuation next year and LTC should hit $100.

Cheers!

We should also remember the payment processors who have shown faith in Dogecoin already, and support them in return. In strictly alphabetical order, I'm aware of: block.io. Coinpayments.net, DogePoS, GoCoin, Moolah. Lets get more stores using them!

I'd think of it less as "Why is Litecoin so high?" and more "Why is Dogecoin so low?"

Even if anything does happen to Litecoin in time, we're merely adding a mechanism to get their hashrate as well as our own, helping secure the coin, we can still survive without them.

DOGE will hit the LTC market cap within next year. This will happen due LTC falling and DOGE gaining its strenght.

Absurd.

You don't understand how Bitcoin works and where it needs help.

LTC and doge will both be added to BitPay et al and will both surge to billion dollar valuations.  LTC and doge cover different niche markets so one will not replace the other.  They both compliment Bitcoin and will assist Bitcoin otherwise Bitcoin will not be able to go to the mainstream mass market next year which is the plan.

Seems legit  Cheesy Cheesy
@Kergekoin, coming here saying something without arguments = nothing.

"This will happen due LTC falling and DOGE gaining its strenght" IMAO this is not an explanation to believe on what you say... we can be doge supporters and stakeholders without saying non-sense things.

Of course Doge can be as important as LTC but we need time and a better/higher infrastructure. New shops or projects accepting Doge as an important feature for it... ... ...
One example of what you can do to help the coin is move your doges, buy things! make simple donations to your friends! Spread your love for doge  Wink

MinAddress : Now remember your addresses easily

Hi,

MinAddress is condensed form of your address with the following features:
Next generation address which is easy to remember and type
Case insensitive
Permanent and secure
Easy to verify

MinAddress uses the following concept making it permanent, secure and easy to verify:

Full address to Min-Address Conversion:
#Take the full address and find the block in which the first transaction to address occurs. The block number is the converted to hex-code and forms the first part of Min-Address.
#Get all the receiving addresses in the block and do a case insensitive comparison to find the minimum number of initial characters which uniquely identify the address, this forms the second part of the Min-Address.

Min-Address to Full address Conversion:
#Take the First part of the Min-Address and convert it to decimal, this is the block number.
#Get all the receiving addresses in the block and do a case insensitive comparison to find full address which uniquely matches the second part of the Min-Address.

After every conversion you will get a verify link which can be used to verify your Min-Address/Full Address.

Example: Bitcoin Full Address: 17ykeSBpC8MrJr4GrizNUYz6DEnwQ598fQ
             Min-Address: 3fa5b-17yk
             Verify Link: http://blockexplorer.com/block/00000000000000099f086871f03d03f6639b89799cb6d452a9f34c5764f83dcb

Currently, we support:
Bitcoin addresses, Litecoin addresses and Dogecoin addresses.

Hope this is helpful.

Please donate to this project so that we can continue the support and development.
