Hello everyone.

I am a professional media consultant, developer, and investor.

This is my first post on BitcoinTalk and I wanted to share some research.

Just food for thought...

Note:

On May 5th 2011 a woman by the name of "Michelle Szabo" registered the domain names "PayWithBitcoin.com" and "PayWithBitcoins.com".

Is this the wife, sister, or cousin of the rumored inventor of Bitcoin?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?

Here are a few other interesting domain name asset registrations with dates.

Enjoy!

Ps: A small donation would be greatly appreciated for the six hours of work!

Very interesting...

If Mark Karpelès registered bitcoins.org on 3/30/2000, has coding experience as his LinkedIn proves, and lives in Japan (whence the pseudonym), I think it's a match as to him being Satoshi Nakamoto!

EDIT: might be helpful to rearrange your list of websites by date, from oldest to youngest Smiley maybe bold or italicize names that are related (ex. Jennifer Dromon or Mark Karpelès appearing multiple times)

Thanks for your reply!

Well, it's a bit tricky.

You see, the date shown in the WHOIS database is a record of "registration" but does not necessarily mean it was the "date of origin" for a particular domain name. If a domain ever expires and then later is registered by another individual, the WHOIS will show the "new registration date" verses the original.

And, more importantly, regardless of the official birth of the address (or date post-drop), the "name" of the registrant can be edited at any time.

So for example, "BiggestBitcoinFanInTheWorld.com" could have a WHOIS date of 2/13/2012 but it could've been registered originally on 10/12/2002 and so you can not necessarily rely on standard WHOIS checkers for original creation dates. DomainTools is available for the most accurate data. And to be quite honest, there isn't necessarily any WHOIS police, so a registrant could edit or falsely the contact details to his/her liking. Or, obviously, just place the domain on private protection as many of my examples have opted for.

And for the final example regarding the name record. Regardless of the date, an individual could have his/her name listed on a ten year old domain but just acquired it last week from the previous owner. So as I mentioned, it's tricky. Wink

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks again for reading.

So Logically

1994 => NSA publishes paper on Electronic Currencies

1998 => Nick Szabo conceives bitgold

1999 => Circle is founded. Possible joint venture between Szabo Karpeles, and others.

2000 => Mark Karpeles registers bitcoins.com

2004 => Bitpay is founded, paving the way for a ready to roll bitcoin payment processor.

2004 => Mt Gox is founded, paving the way for a bitcoin exchange.

2008 => Bitcoin.org is registered.

2009 => Bitcoin is launched by Satoshi Nakamoto

correct me if i'm wrong but... whooooaaaa

No need to cover anyone (I'm clueless also), but I find this kind of search rather obnoxious.

it's pretty pointless. given the technical prowess of the inventor, these are probably all clues he intended for us to find.

@Gusti:

I apologize that you feel like my research is obnoxious.

Let me explain. The information I provided was simply for fun rather than some wild attempt to locate the founder. Honestly, I could not care less who he or she or they are, but would like to publicly congratulate them nonetheless on an absolutely magnificent piece of work that has a chance to change the world.

As mentioned, for a living I work in the media consulting industry so I felt that my rare data should be shared within the Bitcoin community to stimulate the forum by providing evidence of the trends and ownership records of domain assets, no harm intended.

Take care.

why would he keep himself anonymous then? you mean he intended to set people on a goose hunt to find out his identity?

It's true that btc has gone far beyond what its creator(s) could possibly have imagined.

However, I feel this research does corroborate two pieces of data we have about btc:

1. How politically distant "Satoshi" was from btc's community (privacy advocates, free traders, cryptography/cryptocurrency fans, libertarians, etc.) since its inception

2. How Karpelès has treated Mt. Gox since he acquired it - implementing trading caps, price controls, removing privacy to withdraw USD, otherwise interfering with the market

It seems to me Karpelès/Satoshi came into this not as a part of the community but as someone interested in capitalizing off the niche, and the way he is running Mt. Gox now - like a state, basically - proves he is not particularly interested in liberty, privacy, et al.

So all those sites like Bitpay, Mt Gox saw bitcoin coming  Shocked

A lot of people saw Bitcoin coming. Few people envisioned it exactly the way it works now.
Nobody knew the full solution on how to create it so it would actually work, but there was a large crowd of mathematicians, cryptography enthusiasts and early digital currency developers who were looking into this. Hashcash was invented by Adam Back in 1997 mind you. Some people today were already trying to invent proof-of-work based currencies 10 years earliers and the public somehow lost interest. Plenty of fiction back then was already talking about the idea of digital credits. The words 'bit-coin' and 'bit-gold' 'e-gold'  'e-cash' were pretty popular.

Isn't it a bit ironic that the system most use to stay away from surveillance is put in motion by NSA itself?
