Instead of running an ico and giving out worthless tokens, what if an open sourced project ran completely on donations from the community. Would you donate if you believed in it and felt it was needed in the crypto space?
Even small donations like .00001 BTC or .01 ETH
It depend on the purpose the project plans to achieve. If it is entirely for charity, then donation is a welcomed idea but otherwise, that will not be feasible. Everyone wants to make profit and you can't tell people to donate and not get something in return for projects that is supposed to yield huge profit to the developers

Yes I would. If the project has a practical andworking product. Most project this days are profit oriented with no long range plans, so I'd be extremely picky in projects I invest in.

Yes, over the years that I have been involved in computers I regularly "donated" to Freeware projects that offered a option for donations. One of the recent projects that I donated to was, https://tails.boum.org/donate/?r=sidebar ... Tails is a live operating system that you can start on almost any computer from a USB stick or a DVD. These guys will not survive without the help from donations from the community. Tails accepts Bitcoin donations.

Is crowdfunding out of the question in cases like this?
Is it necessary that you receive funding in crypto? Doesn't seem necessary if you're not interested in tokens and ICOs.
We would also set up a Patreon but was just curious about donating crypto. Honestly i view the crypto more valuable than fiat. We could have easily integrated a token into the project and ran an ICO, but chose not to. I don’t see the purpose of having thousands of different tokens to have to use for goods or services when BTC ETH and a few others can be used

There's an idea - Kickstarter or Patreon solely in crypto - BTC or ETH

After our encounter with scammy ICOs, OI dont believe in anything apart from airdrops.. But i dont see reasons why we would donate to any project if we wont benefit in it directly

A huge number of people made a lot of money on the cryptocurrency. And it's easy money. I think that if the project is really valuable, then there will be no special problems with obtaining donations from crypto-enthusiasts.

I don’t think I will do it. You cannot accept an investor to donate his investment. I mean now days everybody in the world are selfish so you cannot expect investors to spend their time and money for charity purposes. Also the project for which you expect us to donate money will be a earning some profit. Why should we donate our BTC then? But yes I can make some donations in other needy areas like NGOs, etc. But obviously if the amount of donation is not that considerable and makes something really good to the crypto industry or any industry then I may even contribute because if everyone would have thought like this we might never had got improvements in btc too.

If it's a good project and it's made to help others, why not? But I don't think that you will find a decent amount of donators in this space, it's crypto in his early days, you have more greedy people then something else in this space.

I was just riffing that maybe a donations platform for artists/causes/projects in crypto can be a thing now too. Who knows?

Bitcoin has taken the world by storm and I think it is still considered risky by many. So when the bitcoin price is at it's all time high, I might think of investing BTC in some key projects I really believe in.

As much as we all love crypto, there is no intrinsic value in charities that accept cryptocurrency donations. One of the best, if not the best, charity review sites is https://www.givewell.org/So... whenever we have some coins left, we exchange them for fiat and simply send it to Doctors Without Borders

Can I nominate my own project, lol? www.BitcoinOnline.io. The plan is to have an ICD (Initial Coin Distribution), not ICO. Mining will be achieved through activity on the site. The site would be user owned and controlled through suggestions and voting. Please check it out and let me know what you think. I've self-funded the whole thing. Trying to prepare for first airdrop launch and press releases by 7/1/18. Still many more features and content to add so little time . . . I've got 3 writers going, two programmers and have another thread I just started today oin this forum offering .002 Eth to anyone that helps test the site and leave some feedback. Cheers, John https://BitcoinOnline.ioOh yeah, here's my ethereum donation address anything really would be much appreciated: 0xCec895aa86db5d56C9b9267303228Bb1C381EA58

Yes, if there is a certain proof that the project will be beneficial to the worlds toughest problems
As for me I think we will donate to the projects but the project can be believed by many participants. so the project aims to bring something beneficial to the general public, and may be it will get support from the people. And beside that if we have many BTC we can help a project in order the project is successfully.

If the project is good and feasible, in line with the realities of life. Especially if the project can benefit me, I am willing to invest. I will contribute some of my bitcoin to invest in the project. Instead of reserving bitcoin for profit, this is also the best way to make a profit.
