Yeah it's nuts.. especially for used GPUs where there's usually no warranty left and you have no idea how much time is left on the card

Just ordered some of the higher end Gigabyte R9 280X's from Amazon. Might have ordered them out actually lol.

So yeah, you can find deals. Just have to keep on top of it. MSI is sold out entirely (at the factory level I heard), they're ramping up production for January.

gc4btc.com  I usually have it set on a 10 second timer to buy everything available so you have about 9 seconds to buy!

And aren't XFX cards typically worse for Scrpyt than most other brands? I'm mostly just amazed to see 7950s selling for more than 7970s!

XFX is one of the least popular brands for scrypt for many reasons. Regarding 7950 price, it's probably because they were the most efficient workhorse at the time, and so people getting into the game late are like "omgz i need 7950s"

Outside of the 7990, I think the 7950 is still the most efficient.  But the prices on thosae are just as ridiculous.

R9 270 & 270X are among the most efficient KW/KH ratio. 5 = 2.4mh @ 950w.

Suggested brands: PowerColor, Visiontek, Gigabyte, MSI

Also interested but definitely no where near asking price.

Speaking from experience, XFX cards run super hot for 2 reasons:
-poor cooling design, heat blows in all directions, onto the motherboard and other cards
-most importantly they draw A LOT of power!!  One card that I have draws over 30 amps (360 watts) at I 20 E 1075 M 1250 710 GH/s...I can only get decent hashrate in the winter outside in the garage on this rig.  When spring comes, it's water cooling and radiator time.

BIOS MUST be edited to undervolt these cards, they are locked.  So there goes your warranty.  All that said, I'm not afraid of using these cards, but these things have to be factored into the sale price.  Seller should show power consumption at receptacle to buyer before sale.
