Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's
computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be
reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

anyone could make any random guess for a number.. some reasoning as to why it might or might not happen is needed too.
and you're already wrong, since in may 2013, the price was around $100 (i think).

No, you are wrong.
Bitcoin might not even go up to 2000$ that time.
The high volatality makes everyone to think so.

hahahah, this made me laugh. I should be fairly easy to predict what the price of bitcoin was in the past The future is harder...I think it's going to be around the current high mark ~1200.

Thanks for that guess! Who knows where it'll be in May 2014. I don't think we'll see record growth like we saw in 2013, but $5k isn't impossible. Who would've guessed that a few months ago!

The problem with this type of prediction (beyond the obvious 2013 date) is that there are too many variables involved. The dollar could weaken. Major retailers could state they will never accept the currency as legitimate. A major failure or attack could occur.
I actually expect the current bubble to burst and the value to drop. Some of the current value is based on the mining equipment development and sale. The only thing consistent about currency is that it will be inconsistent creating fluctuations, not all of which are predictable.
