Massive noob reporting in

Hey everyone, complete noob here.

I'm trying to get pooler's cpu miner (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=55038.780) to work on Win7x64 but with no luck. Can anyone provide me a link to a guide on how to compile these kinds of open source code programs and get them going?

I can manage with connecting to a pool and things of that nature but this is completely new to me.
