Hello, folks !

.... just saying "hi". I am new here.... and since yesterday I am running a test environment with GUIMiner on a Dell Laptop (3 GHZ/Double Core Intel, 2.2 GB memories + ATI Radeon HD 4500 graphic card) with 16,000 DSL. The Wallet I setup with MultiBit.

I have installed two "workers" via BitCoin.CZ ( Slush's pool ) to run some tests first... as there is rumouring lots of hipe news on the web. Yesterday the speed was terrrible slow only 2-300khashs/s... today it runs on 2x 1.5 Mhashs/s, with a single "worker's job" its between 2.9-3.2 Mhashs/s.

I just wanna ask: Is that too slow to mine any Bitcoin Huh Its little bit scaring to see 12,000 dollar expensive mining riggs out there in the market delivered these days by Swedish startup KnCMiner. My laptop runs now since 4 hours and with both worker's jobs the result of shares is: 3 (2) + 4 (2). What doe s that mean ?? - HOpe that is not just wasting energy and creating a bad carbon footprint misusing electric power for nothin good (??).

Maybe someone can give me another tip about my IT infrastructure. At all I have 3 computers within a small computer network (Windows Vista, Windows XP and Linux)... Does it make sense to run all three parallel Huh? Or should I forget the idea to mine any Bitcoins within the next weeks ?

Tks in advance. Wish you a relaxing 3rd Advent.

With 3 MHs you will make close to 0 bitcoins a day. Meaning you pay more for electricity then you will ever mine bitcoins.

Use a profit calculator like thegenesisblock or bitcoinx.com to check your gear or if you ever break even with new gear you want to buy some in the future.

If you don't want to invest in expensive gear then just buy bitcoins and wait for the excahnge rate to go up.
Historically that was one of the best ways to make money.

If you find my post useful send some Bitcoin: 167XM1Za8aG9CdbYuHFMpL2kvPsw6uC8da

He already told you:
http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/
There is a list with the equipment than can mine bitcoins right now with a chance of profit.

No computer mining will get you any bitcoins.

@nate008: Tks. Hope its not just a "big bubble" as we experienced with the dot.com era in 2000-2001 after the hype of ecommerce...

These days are very critical voices out there that "Bitcoin is broken":
http://www.businessinsider.com/researchers-say-bitcoin-is-broken-and-could-collapse-2013-11

... or this: "Miners spend millions..."
http://qz.com/156479/miners-spend-17-million-a-day-for-a-shot-at-4-4-million-of-bitcoin/

Lets see how this "game" is going. Tks for your support and giving orientation.

That is idiocy at its finest based on a 2 years old graph. Nobody is runny gpu anymore , so 650KW per GH is nonsense.
"and that each of these gigahashes requires 650 watts of electricity to solve"
That immense hashpower comes from devices like Knc Jupiter witch only make around 2KW/Gh.
So divide that number by 300.
