I think some subforums are needed. Like giveaways, general discussion, and like "One thread per crypto"

That should be more effective to suggest this directly to an administrator.

I like the present approach better Most of the alternative cryptos are gimmicky and patently exist just to suck in newcomers who think they are late to ltc and btc Once they prove themselves over a period of time, they can aspire to their own sub forum

This is bitcointalk, I don't think any alternative should even be on this forum personally.

+1 Altcoin developers can make their own talk forums.

This many altcoins is blocking development of bitcoin, no need to support it.

I think the alternative currency section is fine, but it is a bit cluttered with all the alt coins that pop up every other day, but I don't think it needs to be divided up further. This many altcoins is blocking development of bitcoin, no need to support it.
How is it blocking development?

They are fine like that. Also alt coins should develop their own communities if they want to get rid of the clone status. If they are unable to do that and still rely on bitcointalk to lure people into their schemes , then they don't deserve anything better than this.

It's not going to happen. The alt-coin section exists so there's a place to throw discussion about alt-coins, because otherwise it'd be spread out all over the board.

I think a decent community and development behind an alt coin is what set them apart from others, but most of these coins have neither.

I only haunt the altcoin section nowadays due to a couple of developers working on altcoin miners that only seems to be on here. Other than that, I browse Litecointalk.org and Peercointalk.org to keep abreast of developments on there.
I'm also tempted to make a thread with links to altcoin mining software threads and try and get it sticked so I don't have to sift through tons of announcement and giveaway threads to try and find them, which is getting tedious as it is. There's one with a list of most of the alts, it'd be a perfect complimentary thread.

It's pretty much unusable now. Should split it into sub-forums for each currency.

+1 Altcoin developers can make their own talk forums. See above. It's a mess, but the individual child boards would probably also be a mess, and new coins are coming out daily; it'd be a fuss and faff to have to keep adding boards.

The situation right now seems reasonable.I think it doesn't need to be changed.

I made a few comments in this similar topic. If it were me, I'd go for:
Alternate Cryptocurrencies / New Coin Launches / Giveaways / Other Discussion
Since those seem to be the main varieties of topic and it would put them all in the same place.
If a thread I replied to 4 hours ago is already on page 6, then it's an incredibly busy forum and could do with being spread out a bit.
And as for saying altcoins should go to another website: I can certainly understand why people feel that way, but like it or not, this place is a victim of it's own success. Of all the places on the internet where people talk about cryptocurrency, this place is #1.
So you have to ask yourself what's best for the future of cryptocurrencies. Obviously you feel it's best if scam coins and novelty coins aren't posted about here, since it tarnishes the reputation of Bitcoin. But I'd argue that it's better they're discussed here, where veterans can tell the newbs that it's a scam or a waste of time. If you pack the newbs off to some dark and dirty corner of the net to talk about the next insert-meme-here-coin, they're going to get ripped off and assume that all cryptos are a con. I'd say that will lead to more people being given a bad impression and would lead to less adoption of Bitcoin overall.
Keep the discussion here, where people can keep watch and prevent scams. Even if you feel Bitcoin doesn't "need" alts to succeed, that fact is that they're here and it's better you don't try to sweep them under the carpet and pretend they don't exist, otherwise their reputation could drag yours down with it.

Read our url
Such a persuasive and comprehensively compelling counterpoint. Everyone has seen the url and funnily enough there's still a bajillion threads talking about alts. I could leave an equally asinine reply and say "read the thread title". I don't think every alt should have it's own subforum, that would indeed be a nightmare. Separating launch/giveaways/general threads would just be much easier to navigate then everything all piled in one place.
