Which one to choose BITCOIN or ALTCOIN ??

In my opinion, within a span of 3-4 months, you shouldn't expect a high percentage gain, unless the coin you invested in had a breakout in price. If you would be starting to invest now, you should try trading but you must have an extensive amount of experience in trading and understand the market movement so well. Be very cautious when trading during downtrend as it may expose you to higher risk.

To begin with investing only in bitcoin is a risky business, you should allocate risks and evenly invest in different altcoins and of course, in bitcoin too. This way you can potentially get more profit.

Based on my own experienced the selection between Bitcoin and Altcoin will depends on our strategy of holding because as for me I will choose bitcoin for my long term holding since bitcoin is not so affordable and the Altcoin is for my short term holding or even for day trading Altcoin is more profitable.

This is more advisable for you to hold about 70% of your cryptocurrencies holding in bitcoin and 30% in up-to 10 altcoins.  Bitcoin drive the market therefore whatever happens to bitcoin do happen to all the coins in the market.  I think ethereum and litecoin is a must as this two determine the future of altcoins market.

if I were in your shoes, I will choose both because put eggs in one basket is risky, I will invest 40% in Bitcoin and 60% in some altcoins at least I will choose min.8 of the top 50 altcoins in CMC

I will not choose between the two. because each of them has advanced development to make the market more and more and more progressive. for Altcoin is more often beneficial in the short term, while Bitcoin is better for the long term. both of which have an important role in the development of more advanced in the future.

Since you are new to cryptocurrency and the bitcoin is really expensive, it would be better if you are going to invest in cheap altcoins that have a future. In that case, you can buy more coins of that kind and you will have a huge profit in next few years. And if ever you really bought cheap altcoins, just do a long-term hold and every time the price drops and you have extra money, just buy and hold again.

In short term investment i must prefer to altcoins, but you have to make sure that the altcoin that you investing is having a good potential to be able to earn profit from it. But if you want a more secured investment, bitcoin is the best for that, because it's the most secured crypto that you may have and it's also the most recommended by almost all crypto holders.

In a balanced portfolio, I think both of them are required. I prefer to hold 1/3 of my portfolio as Bitcoin. The rest is altcoins (including ethereum and also tether). There is also low volume and new altcoins like Helbiz and Daostack.

I will suggest both as they have their unique qualities as long as crypto is concerned. Invest in bitcoin as the most stable and most dominated crypto and the buy other alternative coin because they can help cover up for some loss when bitcoin market is fluctuating. I always choose bitcoin only. Because bitcoin is good for both long term and short term investments. If you invset in altcoin you have to wait for long time and the profit is not high like bitcoin. I think Bitcoin is still a good choice to hold or invest,
There are so many alt-coin out there and some of then are also good for a long term hold but you have to read their project first and decide it for yourself if you want to hold them for a long time.

Always choose both. Never go only all in Bitcoin or all in into any altcoins. I can sleep much better when I know there are still enough funds left (BTC) to buy more alt blood.

Both Bitcoin and altcoin are good to invest in although it's longterm or shortterm but IMO I think Bitcoin is a little bit old ). At the moment, Bitcoin is really slow and new altcoin is much better than Bitcoin about transaction speed and transaction fee . ETH is a cryptocurrency created after Bitcoin and Bitcoin is only better than ETH just because of its high price so if I were you, I would choose altcoin

i think that bitcoin is not the best coin out here but for me it's the most "relaiable", for relaiable i mean that it's less likely you will loose all your founds, with alts you can make some crazy gains but it's also more likely to buy a scam project that will fall to nothing like bitconnect or titanium, so if you want to invest in some alts i suggest you to to study their roadmap, the team and the community before buy them.

For short time investment choose potential altcoins/tokens.An alt with low market cap can reach ~10x but bitcoins can never ever reach 10x in a "short time".Not after the December pump.

There are many good alts in the market, which offers huge scalability making them huge contender for people using them IRL.And if something is used by many people, then the price will automatically reach the moon.Go for altcoins!

I will still choose bitcoin it might be decreasing this time it's price but  it is a strong coin and nothing can beat it's popularity.I will choose to invest in the first ever crypto than in new coin because bitcoin is already known in the whole business and in the market.this is only my own opinion.
