And this isn't? Heh, but the answer is no. Moderators aren't supposed to touch threads in certain boards, Meta and Scam Accusations being the big two. I'm sure there is exception for threads that just say, "hi" or something like that, but for the most part, nope.

That isn't enough attention for some people! They need to make their reports public.

I remember one of the staff posting a while ago that non-bitcoin threads should be reported.  The only place they are allowed is "Alternative Cryptocurrencies".

Looking at the rules for the newbie section, I do not see where it says you cannot post alt-coin related stuff there. Can you point out the rule?

You aren't supposed to post Alt Coin stuff in the newbie section, no. Every so often someone will ask a specific question about a coin in particular, and that is normally fine, however general alt coin threads aren't supposed to be in the newbie section. Bitcoin is complicated enough without new members having to wrap their heads around the other 500 alt coins that pop up daily.

But, the primary reason for Alt Coins not being allowed in the Newbie Section, is that this is a Bitcoin forum, there is an Altcoin section for Altcoin discussion (crowded or not) so alt coin threads are generally not supposed to be anywhere besides the Alt Coin section, or preferably on their own forum.

Yeah, was funny for a few days, now not so much. Every other thread in the newb section is all about Doge.

I think the official Doge support is in the alt currency section on this forum, so that's why we get a load of stupid newbs just trying to get out of newb jail by spouting their cliched doge nonsense so they can just post their crap in there.

Salty, didn't you used to be one of the biggest altcoin supporters?

I still am, I've also been the moderator of the Alt Coin board for over a year now. While I do enjoy alt currencies, I don't like it when their issues spread to the rest of the BTC Forums, because then we get negative attention, and the mob with torches starts up.

I guess I understand that. Bitcoiners do seem to be pretty evangelical about the "one true coin".

BTW: Reading your posts was one of the reasons I got into Litecoin.

Awww, I'm touched. I was a big litecoin supporter early on, I was a Solidcoin supporter early on, until I ran afoul of Realsolid, and I was also a big Bitcoin supporter early on. I just enjoy cryptos in general. In reality, when I became the Altcoin Moderator, my official title was, "Smoothy's Babysitter" but he mellowed out when he found his own thing with Physical Litecoins. I'm glad that I helped get you in (hopefully at a good time and I didn't lose you any money)

All of that asside, this is primarily a Bitcoin forum, and I've got no problem with that. I don't really blame people that have vested financial interest for not being thrilled about people talking about the competition, if alt coins are competition.

Thats why when a big topic, such as Doge gets out of the Altcoin board, and starts ending up everywhere else, people complain, and its a big hassle for a while. Oddly enough, I am quite interested in how Dogecoin is going to end up. I saw the initial reasoning behind making it, and why it gained early support, so I'm curious as to how things turn out. I should probably buy some because I actually do have a Shiba Inu.
