Provocative question: I assume that I am not the only one whose wallet keeps crashing. Does the fact that no updated/fixed version has been published mean, that this coin is dead/dying?

Could be that the dev is on xmas holiday. Also, did you read the README1ST.txt ?

Create directory C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Atom
Copy blockchain and chainstate directories to C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Atom
