I built two rigs so far. Each with 4x R9 290 cards in them.  They run great. I am able to get 3.5MHs from each.  The only problem is that neither system will boot without a monitor attached. I think this may be a BIOS/Motherboard issue. In one rig I have an asrock z87 extreme9 motherboard and in the other I have an asus maximus vi extreme motherboard.  Can someone recommend a motherboard I could use so that my rigs can boot without a monitor attached?  (Dummy plugs won't work on 290 GPUs).

Are you running windows?

If so, this thread will be pertinent. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=11595.0

Thanks for trying to help. I am running Windows, but the rigs will not even get past POST without a monitor attached.  I'm fairly certain the same thing would happen with Linux installed.  Also, as I mentioned, dummy plugs are not an option with the R9 290 cards because they do not have RGB output.

If the motherboards beep when you have a monitor, and they don't beep without a monitor, don't bother reading further Tongue

Hmm motherboards sometimes want you to press a key if there's an "error", and lacking a keyboard or monitor usually counts as an error. Also, are you sure it's a the monitor and not the keyboard?
Hmm my ASUS Maximus V GENE has an option in BIOS called "Wait for 'F1' if error". If you have something similar you can try turning it off and see what happens.

Buy shitty 15" knockoff flatscreen tvs. I found one new for $20 on sale that I use on my basement rigs. looks like badris ass, but it has hdmi and works good enough to start up a rig.

Not sure if you tried this.

Taken from cryptobadger.com --- great site with simple explanations on building your own rigs.

Yo dude,

Go into ur BIOS and change the setting for VGA selection (i.e. PCI-e to Onboard / Internal), you want it to be on the MOBO.

Got me the first time haha, Windows will not recognise cards if you do it this way but BAMT is sweet so likely other Linux alts. Although I think I did have to manually assign the devids to the cards.

Good Luck :-)
