Then I recommend Gary's performance in The Obese Wrestler haha . I joke about my dream being to write a film where Oldman plays every character and wins awards for each role (best male/female performance, best supporting actor etc). He will also direct and score it thus also winning best director and best score / original song . He's actually directing another film this year I think.

My recommendations today, based on movies I've seen recently:
* Time Crimes * Youth Without Youth * Secret Window * The Thirteenth Floor * My Dinner with Andre
All very unusual and thought-provoking. I sought them out specifically on recommendations for something different, something a bit deeper. And none of them disappointed! I don't want to give too much away but if you like the Off-topic section of this forum, you should like these.

anyone here has seen escape plan? it's a fairly good movie. it'll be much better if they make it a little bit more "detail" 'cause I feel like it lacks of something

"I haven't killed a woman since 1983".

I haven't but I thought the previous one before that was good for what it was, but obviously doesn't compare to the first two.

If you like Bruce, Looper and Red were decent.

I haven't seem Red 2 though yet.

I haven't seen the latest Die Hard and pretty much made an executive decision to skip it after so many people said it was complete and utter shit. Die Hard 4 wasn't horrible, but it pales compared to the first and third (my favorites).
I actually ended up watching Lord of War last night... It's still pretty solid, too.
(Hurray for Nic Cage!)

I love it! People tend to forget that he can actually be quite good... Though he also seems to work a lot for the proverbial paycheck.
A friend of mine went to high school with him for a brief period of time (I don't know if they had classes together) but she remembered him as being a goofy kid.

I don't think he's that good of an actor to be honest. He's not totally terrible, but can be. I haven't seen much of his early stuff though. Roger Ebert went on about him as if he deserves to be mentioned along with the greats. Don't know what films that guy was watching.

He's definitely not one of the "greats", but he can be solid with the right script and right director. You know... When he doesn't just make a film to get a paycheck (which is 90% of his stuff now).

Apparently he was going to be the lead in Aronofsky's The Wrestler but the director asked him to step down when Rourke became available. I can't image the film being that great with him in it though.

No, the material definitely didn't fit him. Rourke was perfect for it. He might not have fit that script, but he's definitely perfect for other projects. He usually picks characters that can be played by anybody, but his neurosis was perfect for Adaptation, for example. His being over the top serves other movies perfectly as well. Him being the way he is, he pulled off both parts of Face/Off pretty well. The contrast he brought between the two was, in my opinion, hard to beat.
