Find a CPU coin that's just starting out, or a GPU coin that's just starting out. Weaker hardware means you'll have to be clever about picking a coin with a lower difficulty, or in the right place at the right time when a new coin launches.

Scour eBay and Craisglist for a smaller (like 4 GPUs or less), used GPU rig. Try it out.

One thing I absolutely must say here- cloudmining is a horrible idea and you're throwing your money away by "investing" (more like gambling) it in cloudmining. There's absolutely no reason anyone would offer cloudmining at all if they can just mine on their own and make more (in fact, cloudmining is just a way to offset risk from the hash provider onto you), and if you're looking for a more passive style of investment, lending to exchanges or users here is a much lower risk option.

Cloudmining really isn't even mining at all in the end and shouldn't be discussed in this section, but rather in the Service Discussion or Service Announcement section. If you plan on mining, you either mine at home or get hosted miners or you don't mine. It's simple.

Cloudmining doesn't make sense and most likely you'll pay more than you earn.
Building a mining rig would make more sense if you get the hardware for cheap (don't forget to do some calculations about profitability and don't forget electricity; one advantage of a mining rig is that you can resell your hardware which is hard for ASICs)
