BTC is already moving up without backing information so if you miss this chance you will not get it again. 2014 will be bitcoin huge movement.

There is backing information though. China is going up. That's all there is to it. We're following China.

Just watch that chinese news. We'll come crashing down once they put the ban through. Until then: to the moonz!!11!!

Yup.

I watch the charts like a hawk.

9/10 times, USD bitcoin follows in CNY bitcoin's footsteps.

Anyone who claims otherwise or tries to play down this blatant relationship is a fkn idiot and goes right on my ignore list. Can't afford to have my thoughts polluted with the ramblings of idiots when there is so much at steak.

Bitfinex victims. DO NOT TOUCH THE BFX TOKEN! Start moving it around, or trading it, and you will be construed as having accepted it as an alternative means of payment to your USD, BTC, etc.

Yes this is true, i am not confident at all. its just that we are expecting a baby sometime in july & it would be awesome to have some spare cash  Smiley

I hope you are not looking to bitcoin as an income source. Speculating is just as likely to steal your cash as it is to earn you more, especially on such a short time frame. If you need the cash in the near future then you shouldn't be investing it in bitcoin at all.

I wouldn't have agreed if bitcoin was at $50 to $100 but near $1000, absolutely agree - its not a "looking for spare cash" kind of thing, especially for a baby. Way too much risk.

This is bad news for me, I was looking to earn a "quick" couple of K  Undecided

To repeat the obvious, speculating in the price of bitcoin is a very risky endeavour. If you can afford a loss, go for it. If you can't, don't.

Only you know your circumstances. We can't make this decision for you. Will bitcoins be worth more than they are now in mid-2014. Probably. Can I be sure? No.

You might as well go to a casino then. Bitcoin is very volatile and it could lose half or more of its value before you have time to click the sell button. You could also get lucky and double your money within a couple weeks, but it's still a gamble. I would suggest you learn more about bitcoin and buy some if you really like the idea and possibilities of it, not as a way to earn a quick buck. Don't invest too much so you don't have to worry constantly about the price, and who knows in a few months or years you could see your initial investment grow pretty large. Don't expect anything though, bitcoin can fail and make you lose your entire investment, or it could go down and stay down for many months or even a year before it slowly recovers. There are no guarantees whatsoever, but for me the entertainment value, the community and what it has taught me about money and the financial system is already worth the fiat I've invested in it. That I even made a profit from it is just a bonus.

The Best time to Buy BTC Is when a fake news is out and btc rates goes  completely. But at that time. Smiley

Not sure about "fake" news, but certainly people overreact to what they perceive as bad news. Classic case was Silk Road being shut down.

We all knew when to buy in April  when suddenly 5 buy orders for 4000btc-7000btc each popped up on the mtgox order book into the gigantic selloff. The orders might be smaller now since there are more exchanges but you get the idea.

Don't buy, save it for your baby,

Hard to argue with that. "Don't risk more than you can afford to lose" is the old adage. And you can't afford not to have money to feed the newborn.

I believe the op stated that he/she can afford to lose about $2K. This is just as good time as any to buy bitcoins. It WILL go up in value sometime in 2014. It will double in value THREE times in 2014, if past is any indication. It will increase 5 times in value at least, most likely if past is any indication. If I were in your shoes, I'd make SURE that you can LOSE $2K and still provide for the new baby, and then buy ~3 btc with $2K NOW. Then, hold and pray that you will find the right time to sell 1 btc for much profit. Keep the remaining 2 btc until 2016-17, when your new baby is 2 or 3, you can sell the 2 btc for $1m each and retire.

If he's hoping to make a couple grand to help with the baby, I think it's pretty safe to say he can't afford to lose $2k. If you have the time, patience and a little bit of talent you can turn a bitcoin into several bitcoins trading on Cryptsy. I like those odds much better than a blackjack or roulette wheel. Then again, sports betting is probably better if you really know what you are doing.
If you are really set on this, buy 2 btc, take one and paper trade on cryptsy a couple days then give it a go. If this takes off like we all hope it will next year the btc you don't gamble with should give a nice profit. I think it's muchmore likely we will see $10k nxt year than $10, for whatever that's worth.

If you are going to buy, buy now, cheap as chips. Price is heading north once we get through new year

(Just my opinion. Put money away to feed the baby first!)
