I see brand new users with 1 post come on post a question and log off right after. I'm sure it's spam. But at least some of the questions being posted are interesting. Could be worse like Advertising or some crap.
Sometimes the threads have turned into interesting discussions but the bots themselves should be banned. They're quite easy to spot now though. Basically any newb who signs up and his first post is to try instigate a random discussion is more than likely a bot haha. Think this is another one but can't find where he copied from: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=324321

Yeah there's a ton of garbage being posted in off topic lately. I suspect it's paid sig spammers giving themselves threads to reply to.
I've suggested posts in off topic shouldn't count towards post count.

Hmm, not sure if the people behind the bots are from the paid sigs or not, but a lot obviously just jump at the chance to post something in a nonsense thread as soon as it's posted. Maybe having certain boards that don't affect your post count would cut the down the spam a bit, but I think it'd also just move a lot of it to somewhere else and we'll then see stupid discussions in the politics section or whatever.

I think we should disable the postcount feature entirely, don't you think ? We have activity , that should suffice.

I've actually suggested that too in the past, but it would still be relatively easy to determine posts, knowing there are 20 per page. I've resigned myself to the fact that we're going to have start banning people, didn't want to but it's getting out of hand. Banned a dozen this morning alone (1 week/2 week duration to start), with a dozen more under review, and I'm just getting started.

So is this why my 3 year old account has been banned ? I have 1/4 of my last 100 + posts in off topic so I get banned? Even if my posts are constructive. And how long is my account banned for? I don't spam yet I get banned... How does one find out how long their account is banned? Edit: My account: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=16116

Edit: My account: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=16116I must say, I know that you do make a lot of posts but I having just checked your posts I don't see much wrong with the content. I imagine that the gripe is that you trawl each topic and find something to say in each, without getting into too many conversations. So while some people amass posts by discussing a few topics, you tend to make remarks in many different topics. I'm kind of the same, I post opinions and such in different topics, but that's mostly because I can't be arsed to trawl back through pages of replies to other people. Question: Is there a convenient way to check if somebody has replied to you i.e. quoted you? If there is then I would imagine that I would get into more conversations

The post restriction uses IP's instead of account names. This could be exploited from someone with a proxy list.

Here are my humble opinions.
For someone making tons of useless posts, I believe a mod should delete the posts to give them a warning, and ban the user insists on making useless posts, and delete all his posts.
If you only ban the accounts, the users may still be able to collect their payment on that month (so they are still paid for spamming).

I'm sure there are different levels of punishment. If someone gets banned for a week or two then take that as a warning. Posts do get deleted by mods occasionally, but there are also different levels of spam. Some could be completely irrelevant and off-topic or one word replies and others could be arguably relevant and on-topic but also really vague and essentially pointless. I guess each instance is dealt with on a case by case basis. And most sig deals you have to PM or post you collect your payment, but Ritz's automatic.

Apart from Rtiz, participants of the GAW and Zoomhash programs (both handled by EvilPanda), the LuckyBit program (handled by howzar) and the Minersource program will get paid without any PM or post on payday.
