Here are my humble opinions.

For someone making tons of useless posts, I believe a mod should delete the posts to give them a warning, and ban the user insists on making useless posts, and delete all his posts.

If you only ban the accounts, the users may still be able to collect their payment on that month (so they are still paid for spamming).

I'm sure there are different levels of punishment. If someone gets banned for a week or two then take that as a warning. Posts do get deleted by mods occasionally, but there are also different levels of spam. Some could be completely irrelevant and off-topic or one word replies and others could be arguably relevant and on-topic but also really vague and essentially pointless. I guess each instance is dealt with on a case by case basis.

And most sig deals you have to PM or post you collect your payment, but Ritz's automatic.

Apart from Rtiz, participants of the GAW and Zoomhash programs (both handled by EvilPanda), the LuckyBit program (handled by howzar) and the Minersource program will get paid without any PM or post on payday.

I think you have to post and 'resign' from the Gaw one to collect your payment, or at least from what I can make out.

Maybe that was just if the person 'resigned' early from the campaign then.

[...]

Yes, if you had been advertising for Gaw Miners over a week and had over 50 posts, you could resign and be paid earlier. As others said however, payments would otherwise be automatic, requiring no further communication from either party.

Wouldn't it be possible to remove signature privileges from users caught spamming while promoting a service in their signature? I guess it depends on the campaign, but I'd say most would assume the user had left the campaign and decline to pay automatically, without there being a need for someone to go over every post from that user to check if it was relevant or not.

Seems you're right, but best to provide some evidence with the post so mods don't have to go looking for it. Sometimes they're not easy to spot at a quick glance.

So now they're banning anyone who mentions how shoddy their IPO was on the Google groups forum.

So is this why my 3 year old account has been banned ?  I have 1/4 of my last 100 + posts in off topic so I get banned?  Even if my posts are constructive.  And how long is my account banned for?

I don't spam yet I get banned...  How does one find out how long their account is banned?

Edit:
My account: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=16116

I must say, I know that you do make a lot of posts but I having just checked your posts I don't see much wrong with the content.

I imagine that the gripe is that you trawl each topic and find something to say in each, without getting into too many conversations.

So while some people amass posts by discussing a few topics, you tend to make remarks in many different topics. I'm kind of the same, I post opinions and such in different topics, but that's mostly because I can't be arsed to trawl back through pages of replies to other people.

Question: Is there a convenient way to check if somebody has replied to you i.e. quoted you?

If there is then I would imagine that I would get into more conversations Smiley

I don't have much to say on this really.  It's clear to me there is little room for transparency for banning an account and alot of room for abuse.
Best thing I can suggest is to use the "show new replies to your posts" feature so you can check threads you've posted on.  Not very easy if you simply forget what topics you posted in or haven't posted in the thread in a while and can't find your post.

It always starts off small - like a UI that tells you coins are no longer fungible. It will lead into a locked down Bitcoin - that the rich wants.
It will lead into a locked down Bitcoin - that the rich wants.

Example: As the Bitcoin price goes from $10 to $20, the prices of goods/services goes down from 20BTC to 10BTC. As the Bitcoin price goes from $20 to $10, the prices of goods/services goes from 10BTC to 20BTC!

Buyer sends money to escrow, you send item to buyer, escrow sends funds to you.
first Buyer send money to escrow, then you send item to buyer, and  escrow send funds to you.

It is always hard to predict bitcoin value.
No one could imagine bitcoin price went from literally valueless to $1000 in 5 years and went from $1150 to $500 in 2 weeks. Smiley

Anyway, I have confidence in bitcoin and believe the price could be much much higher a few years later.

There's should be random captcha checks when posting.
Not everytime you post though, just sometimes.

That would be a considerable annoyance, and to be honest, I don't see how it would solve the problem; the bots would be unable to post as often as they do, but you'd still get hit with most of the spam.

EDIT: I guess you could ban users who repeatedly failed the test, but that seems extreme (and with the potential to affect real users). On the other hand, maybe simply flagging those users for closer check, could help find the bots a little quicker.

That's a big no-no. The frustration that it would cause for the legitimate users of the forum would far outweigh any potential benefit to reduce spambots.

Personally I believe that the measures that we have in place are fine, and that the community should continue to report suspect cases to the relevant members of staff. They will be dealt with appropriately.

A captcha wouldn't be too bad whilst you're in Newbie status or for the first week or two, but I still would prefer the Newbie jail (or captchas along with it). With the newbie jail it was easier to spot bots as it confined them to the Beginners section.

Bring back newbie jail, back in my day we were confined to the Beginner's section with a six minute wait between posts.

I think that the CAPTCHA addition might be worthwhile for the Newbies only, but I still think that it is a massive pain in the arse that wouldn't help a great deal.

I think thats not good enough proof there bots, you know how many posts that you can find that match?  Especially with one liners,  "WTG"

"I want to buy that and ETC"........  come with more proof then that.

If you think the above 5 examples are not enough, what about the following 5 more examples?

I keep atleast 1 bitcoin in a separate offline wallet all the time just in case price happens to skyrocket to 10 000's or millions.

So i'd say 1 bitcoin is a decent investment. I normally buy something like 0.3 bitcoins per month.. i haven't sold any yet (exchanged to altcoins maybe) but all the time i have had 1 whole bitcoin untouchable.
I kept  10 bitcoin in a separate offline wallet  the time just in case price happens to skyrocket to 10 000's or millions. its safe or not
in a separate offline wallet  .

In my opinion it is. It's a nice enough amount that you could earn a bit of money if you hold it for long enough but not so much that it's a big loss if you lose it or whatever. Just know the risks.

Hey guys, I was wondering how you buy bitcoins. What exchange/service do you use and why? I'm a newb and want to start buying some bitcoins and I'm leaning towards coinbase because of it's ease of payment, although I do not know how long it takes for bank transfers to complete. Gox is to centralized it seems, and getting money into Gox seems to be very hard, especially with Dwolla, which has many hoops on its own. I wish I could use a smaller exchange like Bitstamp, but I don't know how to easily deposit money there, and Bitinstant doesn't help much, I don't want to drive to do a cash deposit, and the fees are high. Thanks for your input Cheesy

I was wondering how you buy bitcoins. What exchange/service do you use and why? I am a newb and want to start buying some bitcoins .

No, if I have a cold offline wallet then no.

I think thats not good enough proof there bots, you know how many posts that you can find that match?  Especially with one liners,  "WTG"

"I want to buy that and ETC"........  come with more proof then that.

It is not surprised to find similar posts like "I want to buy that", but how likely you can come up with exactly the same long lines like
Code:
bitcoin in a separate offline wallet the time just in case price happens to skyrocket to 10 000's or millions
Code:
It's a nice enough amount that you could earn a bit of money if you hold it for long enough but not so much that it's a big loss if you lose it or whatever
