my 270x is doing more than my 6990 is??   I have only used cgminer and cpuminer does anyone know the obvious setting I'm missing for my 6990?

The obvious setting that you're missing is that
"CG MINER DOES NOT WORK ON SCRYPT-JANE"
"USE THE PROVIDED GPU MINER"

No need cgminer.conf, just download custom GPU miner then extract, edit pool-miner.bat, set your config, finally run pool-miner.bat, done

vcc.altexc.com haven't updated the found blocks for more than 3 hours.
still 2859 is the last block found and the current block is 3201.

what's wrong there? I hope the coins between 2859 up to now aren't lost..
